A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me.

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!

So I’m looking at the notnecessarilyACCUrateWeather thingy for the prognosis for the weekend since I will be away at the prison ministry retreat.
I note that they are predicting a high today for here of 55. Then they indicate that it presently is 56. I guess close counts in forecasting also (along with the usual horseshoes, hand grenades, and A-Bombs...)
Looking at the weather 50 miles south of me down in Jersey (near exit 52 on I287) they are saying things are to be about 8 degrees warmer than here and possible showers on Sunday.
Doesn’t look like there will be any surprises, so the creek won’t rise (actually it would be the Pequannock River that runs past the place.)

I have the feeling that you're missing out on forming a potentially large user group. Nobody ever showed up. They either had the wrong date, wrong time, or wrong address.

I love it when they show a 50% chance of rain and it’s a downpour out the window.
I’ll stick with my weather rock.

Weather Rock..
Hey, I have one of those too. Last I looked (couplea days ago. In the rain. On the way to the mailreceptacle at the end of the drive.) it was wet.
It correctly informed me that meant it was raining.

You will have to send photos of your witch’s outfit. It sounds absolutely stuning.

"Or warped too loose."
Spinning
A wreath is a loop, it's a circular thing,
But the way of our ways is more spiral than ring.
It circles around, that is true in its way,
But it doesn't come back to the point where it lay.
It just carries on forward and makes a new start,
Putting down fresh material to cover that part.
A spiral, a turning, a twisting around,
As days follow days like the manna we found.
For manna from Heaven is the time we receive,
Every day, every morning, then we get up and leave,
Our abode and our comfort, in trust that we'll find,
It will be there to hold us and help us unwind.
Every day as we dance, through our pirouette style,
We lay out our moments like a gossamer mile,
Of thin silken fibers of dreams and intent,
As we spin our life's work in the days that we've spent.
With our neighbors and friends as we dodge and we dance,
With the warp and the weft, and some colors perchance,
We are making a tapestry, each one in our way,
Contributes a part with his actions that day.
And Who is the artist? The Weaver sublime?
The patient Director Who gathers up time?
Why Who else would it be but the Master of days,
Making silk from the cobwebs we've strewn in His ways.
