A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Somehow finding a nice, straight Conservative man in the NJ/ NYC area around my age is like finding a needle in a ... barn.

However, a barn is where you are more likely to find a male of that description.

The citified male is more likely than not non-conservative and more prone to own a rainbow flag...

Prolly goes well with an exercise regimen since it looks like you’d need to chase it to eat it.. ;-)

Nothing sets the mood like a Moog.

And, IMO, nobody really used synthesizers as anything other than an oddity except for Wakeman and Yes.

So, I went out to IMDB to look at the quotes for the 1980 edition of Fame because of this absolutely wonderful interchange between the music teacher / symphony conductor and Bruno Martelli. Martelli is explaining how tired he is of having to rehearse with all these other people when he could do the very same thing in his basement with a couple of synthesizers.

The instructor said something I’m not sure I can type on a family thread, but it was absolutely CLASSIC.

“That’s not music, Martelli, thats (censored).”

Anyway, I always wondered if Wakeman was Martelli’s idol.

Seems we’ve overhunted the easy pickings.

Yeah, just the sort of thing a RINO Freeper would say.

Just didn't want you to miss the fun. ;)

Shannon stayed out??? WHOA! Brave girl!

For about six or seven months, there were about 10-16 vacancies here, and for only 100 apartments, that was pretty high. Then, all of a sudden, all the vacancies were filled in about two weeks.

I (we) got a letter stating that HUD was coming to inspect the last week in October, and that the local office was doing their own inspections in September. HUD does 20%, randomly, but the local office will do them all. Bingo. I knew why there were so many vacancies filled...got to make the numbers look good.

So I want to get the rug shampooed before the big inspection, even though I doubt they will inspect mine.

In other news, I may not have to deal with Smarmy Fred much longer. I’m going to contact the county, which is who I had to begin with, and ask them to oversee me.... At any rate, I feel better knowing I have a choice. It’s possible I can get Sussette for an aide again. :o]

I thought that looked like a Parrish background.

I wrote a story for “Daybreak”, since Maxfield never told that story, other than painting it.

.

It’s “different”.

While sorting through papers for filing last week, I ran across a story...can’t recall the exact name, but it was something like, “Sex Kittens From Outer Space,” or some such. It’s buried on the bottom of the stack, but I want to dig it out and read it again.

The author isn’t well known, but the concept is pretty awesome. ;o]

Is Sussette your Filipino lady who visits sometimes?

I think Shannon went out when Tom the Son came in at some very late (or early) hour. He left again this afternoon and will be back next Saturday, gone to stay in South Carolina and play Dungeons and Dragons with his friends for a week. They’ll probably drink beer, too.

Yes, that is the same Sussette. She was my aide several years ago, and has been trying to get me to finagle things so she can oversee whoever is assigned as my aide, since she has gone to training and been promoted.

Monday, I will text her and ask her to come and visit, and we can discuss things. Also, I will contact the county and request that I be visited by a case worker to assess my situation. At that time, I can request an agency.

So, will Tom the Son bring back some more laundry? (If he keeps growing, you will need industrial-sized laundry machines to handle his clothes.)

Beer is good, and I wish I could get some. Actually, I’ve been wishing that all day... *sigh*

I’m sure Tom the Son will come back with laundry, but he may be able to do wash at his destination.

He may be able to but WILL he? Hmmmm...
There’s the rub, for sure.

So did he talk to you while he was home and tell you how his latest outing was?

He may be able to, but are you betting on it happening?

It depends on whether he runs out of clothes. If they decide to go out at night in the woods, they may do laundry afterward.

He said their backpacking trip was hot and humid. They were going to go for three days, about six miles a day, but they were so uncomfortable that they did 15 miles the second day and then returned to their various parental abodes to do laundry and play computer games.
