The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
Not long if the wimmins are drunk...
Wow! Cool!
You want ghosts on a ship? Go on the Queen Mary tour. It is the scariest ship I’ve ever been on, even when
she was sitting still in Long Beach.
I don’t think that Bryan and I will chase her to Washington State. We had quite enough of all the weirdidity in
the week we spent there during a summer vacation from work.
But I have to admit that the fireworks were spectacular, and we had good seats for the show. It was amazing.
And if you don’t think I’m weird, then why am I one-finger typing and at the same time eating a head of lettuce
as if it were an apple without a core. And no salad dressing, either.
The lettuce thing is weird.
We visited the Queen Mary in the early 1970s when my aunt lived in Long Beach. My grandfather and great-aunt came over from Northern Ireland on it.
Eating a head of lettuce like an apple is not weird, merely her inner bunny expressing itself.
Weird would involve a pancake on her head at the same time. Unless she had hidden a Deringer beneath it...wait... that would be waaay kewl,
;>)
I’m sorry. I thought you had a cat.
Hi, TOL!
I actually loved the Queen Mary. The fudge they sold was the best I have ever had outside my own! LOL!
I would love to tour her again. Is she is Washington state? Why? If you know.. Just curious.
How are your fur babies? Has Bobbie fully recovered?
Remember the commercial with the customer service person named Peggy?
Gee, face, I’m sorry about the power cord. They should overnight one to you so you will have by noon tomorrow.
I thought Dell was the best PC computer. I hear Acer is good. I’ll keep my fingers crossed this is fixed very quickly.
Giving me all these ideas.
As for the Queen Mary, There was an episode on Ghost Hunters about it were the team was investigating it. they had some pretty harrowing experiences.
I thought Dell was an American company.
I wished sometimes.
The Acer was my first choice until I read the specs on the Dell, and spoke with some FRiends, and that clinched it for me. It will be here in a day or two, so I’m good!
My friend in Vegas has an Acer, and I have always liked it. But I think once the power cord is here, I will love the Dell. ANYthing is better that Toshiba or HP!
Dell is American, but their customer service team is obviously outsourced to India or some other America-friendly country. It’s cheaper that way, ya know?
My theory is that it's a dominant finger.
A very dominant finger.
You are so astute!
Beware the Dominant finger!
We had actual rain, but southern Utah had UGLY rain. Flash floods in the desert are powerful and sudden. Even if you are “prepared,” you can be killed.
The death toll for the recent floods in Hildale and Colorado City is 12, and there has been a death in Zion National Park. Within the last few hours.
The desert — beautiful but deadly.
Where is everybody?
Waiting to pounce?
