The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
I guess everyone’s gone to church.
We went last night, but we’re leaving in half an hour for a hike with the Cub Scouts. 71 and partly cloudy.
I’m here.
Just..not.
Not feeling good.
Sorry to hear that, hope you feel better soon.
Thnaks.
I have ot head into work later, while not feeling good.
They don’t have anyone to fill in for me.
Sadly, such doesn’t come with premium pay for such trouble.
I wasn’t sure....in cyberspace o one knows who you are.
I’m a woman too....a crazy cat lady, currently catless.
Anyway, nice to meet you Pippin!
Darks,
I wish I knew how to get my mom’s matzoh ball soup to you. Will make you better.
Take some pills with you. I don't know which kind. I'm no good with pills. I only take vitamins.
And aspirin. And something like Tums, occasionally.
Stomach bug I picked up in the past couple days.
Not quite as bad as the mild food poisoning I got February last year, merely on the “Highly annoying” side of things.
Good day to you ‘ Face. :)
The nights are closing in now, ready for autumn to come rolling in.
Geese are migrating to their jumping off areas ready for their winter vacation.
You,d like this hotel, it an absolute maze of corridors stairs and elevators...they have all been explored, as you do.
Easy with the weapons demonstration , TC.
That nearly blew an airlock out of the pressure hull. :)
I love ‘sploring! I think I would very much like where you are.
We don’t see geese, here, though I’ve been in other states where the migratory routes went right over where I lived!
And we won’t see autumn for at least six weeks more. Not saying it won’t get chilly, just that leaves have yet to turn.
I have a friend with a Harley. Nice cruiser, that. I haven’t been on it in a while, but there is always “tomorrow.”
I would like to have seen all the bikes you saw today. I’ll bet that was a sight to behold! Every so often, there is a biker rally or a Ride for some Cause (usually children or war vets) and we are treated to quite a parade of them going past here, as we are on the road to quite a few places east and south.
They don’t usually come back in the bunches they went by in, but that’s because some just like to take their time and see the sights. Still, I can hear them coming!
LOL!
We have geese here year-round.
You can’t be a crazy cat lady without a cat, you need to get a cat.
Nice to meet you Gefn.
7up or sprite is good for settling the stomach
explored by ghost hunters?
Is the hotel haunted?
My fuzz ball died and then I got really sick, so I’ve never been able to get another one.
I’m hoping by next year I’ll be able to. I’m single so it would really be nice to have company.
They make great companions but only get one when you are ready to get another cat.
