A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

I know that from your poetry, Bob.

Have you decided to have your poems published? If not, I wish you would consider it.

I can recommend from a list of UT safe landing zones:
North Yorkshire,
Cornwall,
Kent.

Now where is truly safe ....well ,there are a couple of bunkers come to mind.

Shuttle craft currently wheels down in Canterbury.
The weather is going to be drizzle with a little rain followed by rain and outbreaks of Sun for the rest of the week.

I’ve been contemplating life. Sunday seems like a day to do that. Like I don’t have time to do it during the week, ha-ha.

And I’m still having flash-backs of the nightmares early this morning, so I’ve been trying to keep busy. Not easy when everyone is gone.

“Not to mention, since you didn’t: Notorious Nuclear Niceness Nazi, insinuator of the Molasses Miasma of Niceness, bearer of the Dread Words of Power

And of course innumerable other accolades and titles. Executive Secretary to the Imperial Weatherman, after all.”

Sorry, Forgot to mention all that.

I need to sort my clothes, but just to give me something to do. As of course, laundry is out for now, anyway.

I try to keep my Sunday work at a minimum, and I don’t want to put any more on this hard drive, so I can’t do any genealogical work.
Including working on my life’s story, such as it is. There is so much to do...

And the router is giving me fits again. I emailed Netgear but I have no idea when I will hear from them. I’m thinking of taking this thing back to Cox and exchanging it for a REAL router. GAH!

“His sons aren’t bad looking either”

That would be the only advantage

BTW, did I mention I was a woman?

I need to sort Kathleen’s clothes. I don’t know whether she needs anything new for fall, which is bound to arrive sometime.

Hiya, Moosie!

We’re having some of that drizzle/rain/mist here, as well, but the temps are nearing 90 so it isn’t too bad. Just muggy.

It will soon be time to swap out my summer stuff for the winter things, and I will be donating a few things of each to the local thrift store.

I mostly wear thermal shirts in the winter, but I think I need to buy new ones, as these are getting thin...five years, at least for most of them, and some go back to when I was in TX.

That would put them at 10 years old. No wonder they are thin!! I would like to get some flannel shirts, too, but I don’t know if I could afford that. Much less the thermals!
