A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

(as long as she brings the plenty of good wine, she could be as furry as her little heart desires, afaic2)

Considering my Dwyn is a cat, and she is mostly fur, she might weigh in at roughly three pounds if that.

Evil is indeed afoot. The enemy assault continues on The Chunnel and now they've sent in the sappers.

quote the Dragon, "St. George and I might be mortal enemies, yet I am a Britisher dragon! Bugger off heathen rabble!"

BTW, today is International Beer Day, so quaff, quaff, and drink up!

For some reason I suspect the wine-in-glass might not be more than table quality to a palate found, say, in the Bowery.

I do recall that long ago a market effort involved a so called scotch and white wine concoction marketed only in pint bottles... a brief foray into the Mad Dog 20/20 demographic.

Sounds gross. Walmart sells a package of three (stemless) glasses of wine for about $10.

Flowbee...

My Baby Sister - have I mentioned she is five years younger than I - had (still has) one of those that she used on her three sons. On one visit many years ago she decided I looked too shaggy and insisted I let her ‘clean it up a bit.’

Actually didn’t come out too bad, but her sons were mortified that she did that. Of course they are much older now while Sis, due to the manipulations of Common Core Math, is still 29.

And my Nephews take their kids to a barber shop..

I have to confess that I've never used one.

That would make me a hypocrite, if I was insisting that others did so.

But if I had thick curly hair, instead of straight blond that has turned almost entirely white/gray, I would use one of those devices, if I could get one cheaper than the $110 or so, that it was being sold at on Amazon (iirc).

If that Bruce guy, can become no longer a guy, then why shouldn't gals be able to change their birthdays to a Feb. 29th (leap year)?

Divide by 4, without Common Core. Yeah, baby. Joke 'em if they (critics of this process) can't take it?

One trouble with that plan though, is a real guy could get arrested, unless he was only going to be dating [ahem] 'mature' ladies...

Chrome as a browser is easy. I haven’t played much with a Chromebook but I imagine it’s sort of like this tablet-with-keyboard I’m using now. If you don’t mind using the Google Office apps I think it would be very easy to deal with.

But if your Internet goes out it’s a doorstop until it comes back.

Those didn’t go over too well, here, so they are no longer available. Far too expensive when compared to bottles of the cheap stuff.

Win 10 installed and I hate it already.
I dunno. Maybe it’s just my frame of mind.
It was hard to find the tab for multiple windows, which I need on any given day, but I was also able to get to Pogo, and play a couple of games. I don’t know how to build a Favorites file that works on demand, but maybe that will come.
As for the Internet stopping, everything is a doorstop until it’s back up, in my experience.
Still thinking seriously about Chromebook. It would solve a major problem for me, for sure.
