A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

"I saw were at least two ancestors died in battle and one was beheaded after a battle. not something to crow about."

I'm confident that most of my ancestors were ordinary hillbillies, about as far as the eye could see.

I guess life for them had its ups and downs.

I was logged in. Now I’m going to the gym, leaving various teenaged girls to mope about the house, and the Elegant But Inert Bill in a state of collapse in his room. I made sure he was breathing.

Being heavily invested in sawing logs could be a form of being logged-in, I suppose.

those ancestors I was talking about yesterday lived in the middle ages in England but I’m also from Hillbilly stock, my dad’s family being from NC and Tenn.

I’m sure I have all sorts of interesting people in my background. That and $.25 will get me a cup of coffee if the Jets or Giants win.

My big thing is living my life according to what the Bible tells me is expected of me and teaching my children to do the same.

I don’t mean to dump on anyone else’ interest, butI just can’t imagine researching my ancestry any more than I can imagine collecting postage stamps or collecting examples of Obama’s lunacy. It would just be tedious, unending work to me.

Genealogy is not for everyone and I respect that but you can’t deny the joys it give a person when they discover new things about their family and about themselves as well as the role their families played in history however much it was.

I have only a mild interest in my ancestors, but it’s a harmless pastime for those care more. Sometimes unexpected connections are found which lead to interesting books.

I wouldn’t deny anyone else any joy they find, wherever they find it.

However, I would probaby mostly be interested if I had an inheritance coming I knew nothing about.

And if I found I were next in line for some throne somewhere I’d probably drop off the grid as fast as I could.

really interesting books. I have an interesting theory based on genealogy and a question someone asked about being descended from royalty.

The theory being that since a lot of the royal families throughout history had rather large amounts of children albeit losing most to infant or childhood mortality.

Yet there were a good many who grew to adulthood and became parents themselves.

Now considering that their children grow up and become parents and so on the numbers would grow until you could populate a whole country.

So in theory we are in some way descended from royalty so that would make us all equal wouldn’t it?

‘So in theory we are in some way descended from royalty”

oops! That should have read “So we are ALL descended from royalty”
