A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Either way it would be effective..

It’s a strange design, and that alone does not make it better.

It might be a deadly trap, but it telegraphs its malign intent in several ways.

Obviously it is a message for the observer, not a trap for the unwary. Unfortunately, its message is a bit over the top to be effective, but it is memorable.

Just bad design. Good art, but bad design. DC will understand my point; effective design is elegant and majestic in its purpose.

"I will be here tomorrow."

I have always admired your gumption and determination in the face of nightmarish circumstance.

I’m starting to get the big picture now.

It must be morning. I had a late night last night, and I feel like I’m not quite slept out, so I no doubt will have to have a nap this morning.

However, I have promised to get the freezer defrosted today, so as soon as my morning dose of morphine kicks in, I will be up and making that idea a fact.

I feel a little congested this morning, but I think I’ll have a breathing treatment before I turn to on the kitchen, and that should work for the rest of the day. I hope. Unless the wind kicks up the dust and blows it around the valley.

Good morning, everyone.

I’ve been up and functional since 5:00 a.m. EDT, but many of the family members are dragging.

Wow. I slept till 0430, and feel like a sluggard!

They are laying the floor for the new arena, and the investors are really trying to lure a hockey team here. I hope they do!

And did you hear about the BOA plane that caught on fire, yesterday? I haven’t heard all the details, but it was the right engine. One vid clip showed the chutes deploying and that was pretty cool. Several injuries, but it’s all working out.

And, oh, yes, it looks like Harry Reid will be permanently blind in one eye (his right?) after his exercise equipment, Guido and Luigi, got done with him earlier this year.

Aim it at the White House. Hope the Capitol Building gets hit as well.

Not me. My pity can be used elsewhere!
Did you get your FReepmail?
I got the freezer cleaned out, and have decided that because of the difficulty of reaching the on-off switch, and putting a pan under the drain plug, I’m going to switch places with the pantry.
So I will need to get the dishes done and free up counter space so the pantry is easier to move. I have no clue where this burst of energy came from, but I need to take advantage of it while it’s here. ;o]

I don’t think he had any sense to begin with, and his son is an exact copy of his dad. *shudder*

Red alert! Red alert! This discussion is getting close to political. Hull breach eminent. Impliment distraction plan immediately.

So, anybody looking forward to football season?

I’ve been ready for football since the Superbowl!

I like arena football, and European football and pre-season football, but I don’t get to watch many games because I don’t have any sports channels. *sigh*

It looks like I need to get back to work. There’s no one else to do it, so that leaves me. Then I can take a break!

I don’t usually pay attention to football except enough to engage in office chatter. But this year will be different. Every time a New York team wins, coffee at Dunkin will be $.25 the next day.

WOOT!

There is only one New York team, the Bills.
