A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

"... the impacted toe is only slightly larger than the control specimen ..."

I really appreciate the way you describe that.

Had Adam's original negotiation panned out, we would have been kept hopping.

"An arm and a leg, huh?" Adam pondered the sacrifice that would be needed to furnish him with a companion.

"What can I get for just a rib?"

It was a metal-rimmed glass pot lid. It only aches a little this morning.

good morning.

Kittie Care Team has examined your affected digit.

Diagnosis: someone planted a baby eggplant on your foot.

Oh man I was glued to that debate. Learned so much. Here’s what I learned.

1. I forgot Trump is a mysogynist.
2. What is it with red ties? Only Cruz had a black one, and Christie wins with a seafoam green one.

3. Cruz was wonderful. His daughters were adorable in their identical dresses at the end.,

4. Dr. Carlson had the best ending comment after Cruz. I give him major props for that. He doesn’t stand a chance bit that was a great great line.

5. I’ve never seen Megan Kelley before. I think she’s beautiful. And smart. The total package.
I give them all props for not going into name calling and what not. I wish the questions had been a bit harder though. Still, I did learn some things but it’s a dang long time til Iowa

P.S. anyone see Steven Tyler in the audience? I didn’t know he was a Republican?

The most important question of the night was not asked.

Q: if you go to the White House, would there be a First Dog, a First Cat or both?

Your image sizes on these are really big, resulting in fuzzy video.

Oh I love those new sinks.

And the kitties.

May our next president bring a kitty to the White House. We need a first cat.

The Clintons had a cat. Maybe the next President will have a reptile pet.

I loved Socks

I have a pawtograph picture from him,

I wrote to him and asked for it. I guess his staff thought I was a child. Oh well. I cherish it.

I allso have pawtograph from Millie and Barney Bush.

If I had known about such things as a child I would have tried to get Susan Ford’s Siamese cats pawtograph .

I have a nice note from Dick Cheney. Vlad was born on his birthday, and I sent him a picture.

That is really wonderful frame it. It might be worth something in a few years, you never know.

Someone on the Antiques Roadshow might say it’s worth something in twenty or thirty years from now.
