A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

I say looking my age is better than looking older than I am.

I earned every gray hair and every wrinkle the hard way. Nobody’s taking them from me.

This thread has been going on quite a while. Let me say that I mourn the loss of my pets more than about 99.9% of people. So there.

Back. Wet clothes in the bathroom, waiting to be hanged! I will give my back a little rest before I tackle the hanging.

Now all I have to do is wait for 0900 for Walmarf to open the pharmacy...

I remember that, and I thought he was very young to take such an interest in that!

But good for him! I’m always impressed with him.

My son did some research, based on the symptoms, and his diagnosis is: Either a fuel pressure regulator or a spark plug. I had a spark plug do this once before but it was because the distributor wire wasn’t tight. Burned the wire and I had to have the distributor replaced.

So at least the problem is being narrowed down. If I can just get my SiL here to actually LOOK at it, I’ll be good!

This one was all over. Chewing through the cord from my keyboard to my puter, shredding papers, climbing me like a tree (She had very sharp claws, I looked like a road map), hiding on shelves, etc.

I’ve been doing bits and pieces of church stuff here while young persons do some schoolwork and Kathleen sits on the toilet complaining (but not going ...).

James has heated himself a can of soup.

Just finished hanging up the clothes. It has taken my breath away, even with morphine. And I’m also shaky and sweaty.

And now, of course, I have two more loads to wash...sheets and towels. *sigh*

I will see how much I have left after I get the grocks I need and try to buy enough quarters to wash and dry these two loads. But that chore will have to wait until Monday, anyway.

One of the reasons I’m in so much pain is because I didn’t sleep last night. Hopefully, I will make up for it tonight.

And now, I’m going to take my sweaty achy self outside and let the wind dry me off, then I will head for Walmark.

Do you have a Papa Murphy’s pizza place near you?

To understand it, one must experience it.

“WARNING - Not to be taken internally!” - Slings and Arrows

In 12 cup drip percolator pot, fill to 6 cup mark with water.
In filter, put 6 heaping scoops of coffee.
Medium roast works best, just make sure it’s a robust blend.
Found a maxwellhouse ‘medium roast’ that was rather anemic.
Put pinch of salt in filter, about as much as it would take to cover the surface of a dime with one even layer.
This keeps the coffee from tasting burned too quickly, it doesn’t age well brewed this way.

Brew, recirculate if need be, usually not.
Add sugar and dairy creamer.
Creamora and coffeemate are not recommended unless you like the heart racing that Ranger Pudding gives.
That, and the nondairy creamer will give you both a headache and a buzz with the coffee.

I usually put about 8 spoons of sugar in this stuff, it ends up being like Russian Kava, thick and sweet with that bitter overtone to it.

Oh, and I am NOT responsible for seeming demonic possession of the coffeepot, or the coffeepot ending up acting as if it has been damaged.

Be sure NOT to add creamora or coffeemate to the brew, unless you LIKE ranger pudding style heart racing.
When I brew that stuff for myself, I recirculate the stuff to brew a second time, but that’s me for my own personal enjoyment, and it may wreck the coffeepot.
Don’t forget the salt, it’s important to the finished brew.

Addendum: My coffeepot was wrecked, it burst the boiling element for “unknown” reasons.
Probably our lime water.

and his diagnosis is: Either a fuel pressure regulator or a spark plug.

The fuel pressure reg seems more likely.

A spark plug, if only one, would just make it miss like a bucking bronco on three legs (it's a four cylinder. Three legs.. Sorry, bad yolk. ;-) If a general ignition problem such as bad coil or whatever that year Geo used (don't know if they were into the integrated electronica in 1992) you would think that it would also act up when it was cold, not exclusively when it was hot.

You really need someone to stick their head under the hood. But you knew that. My beam-me-up-Scottie-device hasn't worked for years, else I could just drop into your parking lot..
