GAINESVILLE, Va. Tiger Woods has been here before. Hes changed his swing at the behest of several different gurus. Hes played the Quicken Loans National and won in 2009 and again in 2012.
Woods knows the course at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, which this week is home to the tournament run in partnership with Woods non-profit, the Tiger Woods Foundation. He even competed for the United States in 2005, when RTJ was home to the Presidents Cup.
But this time around, everything is different. The tee boxes are pushed farther than Woods remembers them being a decade ago.
Its not just the course that has changed. Woods is an entirely different golfer. Dont forget, I came off back surgery, changed my golf swing and done a polar 180, Woods said Tuesday during a press conference. You add those two together, its a perfect storm. Ive had to fight through both of those at the same time.
Woods entered the tournament last year as the worlds top golfer. This time around, he sits behind 265 golfers in the world rankings. He has been cut from three tournaments in the current PGA Tour season, more than any season in his career.
Since its the first professional stroke-play event hosted at RTJ Golf Club, nobody can say with confidence how few strokes it will take to bring home the trophy. But Woods has noticed a certain trend in stroke-play tournaments, or perhaps he is just more cognizant of how close the competition is now that he is playing from behind.

Keep your eye on the ball, screw the rest.
I don't know what that is.
That’s what started his problems.
The media still makes the story about Woods. If Tiger really wants to make a comeback, he probably ought to take off the season and spend it in physical training, physical therapy, and practice.
if Obie from Nairobi were as honest....I might find the least bit of respect for him....
I hate the bastard. He is an arrogant POC who defiled his his marriage and his children with 24 whores. I hope he lives a hell on earth.
Agreed, and stay away from roids which I believe he is and is part of his problem. I’ve not the least sympathy for him.
He’s waiting for his glutes to activate.
It’s over. Too many young players now, Tiger cannot compete with them.
The North and South Poles are situated 180 degrees apart, in terms of latitude.
Amen to that. It’s almost unbelievable the talent of some of these young players, it’s good to see and good for golf.
I am so tired of people’s complaints about how they were harassed or discriminated against or whatever. Most people were but somehow only the racial aspect matters. I had a big nose, acne, was sometimes chubby and got teased for all of them. That had no less painful impact on me than racial teasing does on non-whites. Sorry, non-whites, you don’t own the market on feeling picked on.
Piss and moan, gripe and groan.
Enough.
Just....fade away.
Okay. I can see that. Maybe I live under a rock, but I don’t think I’ve heard anyone use it quite that way. I’ve heard plenty of people describe a complete reversal as “a 180” and I believe Sheila Jackson Lee described a complete reversal as “a 360” [facepalm]. But adding the polar into the mix seems slightly unnecessary.
Thanks for posting that, I’ve never seen that story before.
The thing is with TW, what with all his groveling media lapdogs and sycophant groupie fans, is that he can use any excuse he wants for why he sucks at golf now, and they will eat it up. Mark my words, the groupies will still be claiming, when TW is approaching 60 years of age, that he is “so close, he’s almost back, he’ll be passing Jack’s record now for sure”.
I hope he fades away. I lost all respect for Eldrick Woods (I refuse to call him by his silly nickname) when he made up a story about being racially harassed by white students when he was in kindergarten.
...
I’d forgotten about that. I’ll be glad when he fades away. I think it’s already happening. The media makes all kinds of excuses for him because he brings in the money.
