The Heisman Trophy might just be the most prestigious individual award in all of sports. It’s a symbol of everything that stands for college football, with one player each year joining an exclusive fraternity for his on-field success. And, over the years, we have seen some great players go on to win the award and make a name for themselves in the NFL. Unfortunately, having the stiff-armed statue doesn’t always lead to that kind of pro career, and these 20 of the players who found that out, as they’re the worst Heisman Trophy winners to ever play in the NFL.

Jason White followed closely by Sam Bradford. The best Heisman in the NFL was Barry Sanders.

I was a Lions fan in the 90s. I feel your pain.

“College players going to the NFL are going to a higher league. The competition is at a much higher level.”

The talent level is inversely proportional to the innovation and pace. NFL is a yawn fest and some players just don't fit in stagnant offenses.

Mike Rozier was another one. He signed with the USFL Pittsburgh Maulers out of college, spent most of his rookie year hurt. And then the team folded.

There are some that never played in the NFL at all. And speaking of the NFL, if they wanted to know what was on Brady’s cell phone, why didn’t they get a court order? Oh, that’s it, they didn’t know what they were looking for. They were just looking.

There could be another (highly contested) list of the worst number 1 overall draft pick to ever play in the nfl.

Chris Weinke was saddled with a sucky pro team. While the team record was horrible, Weinke did score an impressive number of rushing touchdowns. If you have a decent quarterback and surround him with a bunch of low talent players, you aren’t going to win.

Well who ever ranked this is an idiot.

Chris Weinke had a decent career with the Panthers, and has no business being near number 1.

Tim Tebow’s career was destroyed by the leftist media, which kept any team from building an offense around his skill.
John Fox (who I admire as a coach) crapped on him by picking up Manning what the year after Tebow goes to the Broncos, and they get to the playoffs.

Manziel should be on the list, or he will be some day anyways

Most Heisman winners, and first overall picks, have this problem. Most of them are stuck on bad teams, and then do poorly.

I agree with the poster above who said the Barry Sanders was the best of the Heisman winners. He did amazing things with a horrendous team around him. Imagine what he would have done with a better team.

Sam never played a single snap in the regular season did he?

Then he went to the CFL (4th string) and dropped out before the first regular season game too.

“I don’t see Manziel on that list...”

Give him another year.

I don’t see Manziel on that list...

I think they're being kind and not putting him on the list...yet. Same with RG III.

I understand that Tebow has been given an opportunity by a pro team and according to the last reports of which I am aware was doing well. I hope he makes it.

He was signed to a contract with the Eagles in the off season and hasn't taken a single snap in practice yet. How is that "doing well"?

After one year? I am no fan of Manziel, but I think it’s stupid to judge a QB over 2 or 3 games. He could still be good. Most are not good immediately.

It should be pointed out the purpose of the Heisman is not to predict the best pro player.

Gino Toretta beat out Marshall Faulk in 1992.

Not only that he was given the heirs man as a junior, which wasn’t done back then. Knocking out Anthony Davis who was denied the heisman as a junior the year before.
