Regarding illegal immigration, to me the most important thing is to finally secure the borders so that illegal crossing are stopped for good.

They wouldn't even come if we just turned off the jobs and freebies spigot. They can't exist here without it.

As long as that spigot remains on, they're gonna get here by any means necessary.

They did before....many went back when the economy got bad in 2008 etc...and they also moved from one state to the next looking for the greatest handouts.

I do not underestimate the lengths they will go to dodge the laws. Trump or no Trump...forged papers etc. will be a business!

Yep, as I understand it that’s supposed to be the law for anyone who has been here illegally for over a year.

Expediting those who have been here illegally being allowed to stay/return here legally is amnesty.

I agree—Trump and Cruz are better on this issue than the other guys—but still not good enough. Trump calling attention to it helps and is helping even Americans talking to pollsters to feel less cowed.

But then giving it away through amnesty undoes that good.

Remember what happened in AZ, when they first passed their apprehension of illegals law? Illegals immediately began leaving AZ...and, many self-deported back to their home countries.

Yep, I remember. And it worked because it was a sane reaction to the presence of large numbers of illegals amongst the population of a well ordered society.

Nearly every country in the world makes immigrating to their countries very painful, which naturally deters that behavior. When that same behavior is actually rewarded, as we've done in the U.S., the predictable human tsunami follows.

Several of us discussed such a plan a long while back.

Every criminal in prison they don’t come pick up means a discount on their quarterly financial aid - fine of 100k plus our expenses to keep them. Every illegal we drop at their embassy - 100k. Guy shows up a second time and gets sent back to the border and one dude just cost them 200k. Something tells me Mexico would get serious about securing their side in a hurry.

Their current package means they could only afford about 9000 such discounts a year before their aid turned into a bill.
