No Windows Media Center in Windows 10, so I am sticking with Windows 7 Ultimate on my home theater computer for the duration.

It was not my decision when my Lenovo Win 7 Ultimate took a dive, so I had to get a new laptop, and of course, with Win 8.1, within the last 6 weeks, so I am not so ‘cuckoo for cocoapuffs’ to jump out and get the next Win number in the series.

And none of this matters.

They’ve still lost my 65 YO mother, my 65 YO MIL and my FIL...

Nobody is considering the huge cohort of older people when they make these sweeping changes.

(honestly, I’m only 44 and I just bought a new computer with Windows 7... Can’t comprehend the stupid ‘tile’ thing.)

Just got a new Dell Inspirion 660 a couple weeks ago with Windows 8.1, took a little to get started after coming off Vista. Had a offer pop up on the computer for a free upgrade to Windows 10 but I thought it best to pass it by at this time.....correct move or not?

Not defending MS, just offering some food for thought...

The changes from 7 to 8 were geared largely towards the rapidly expanding touch screen market.

The User Interface may go back to looking a life more like what you want or are used to, but it will never go all the way back. Win 7 didn’t provide cross platform continuity of experience. Win 8 does to some extent, and Win 10 will to a much greater degree.

That means computers, phones and tablets running Windows will have significant commonalities in the user experience. That means a UI geared towards touch.

I’m not saying anyone has to like it, or dislike it for that matter. But that is the way of the future. Perhaps understanding one of the big reasons for UI changes will help some people who wonder why MS felt the need for changes from W7.

Ask yourself why microsoft is giving away the operating system.

How do they make the money to run the company if they give away half a billion copies?

We are going to be spied on. Like our cell phones, all the programs will report back and the data sold.

I still say they will start charging in a few years. The only other way is if people buy enough apps that keeps microsoft afloat.

Now that’s news! MS plans to keep Win10 going for 10 years? Did they go that long with ANY of their previous OSes? (outside of MS-DOS which they purchased for $10,000)
