FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Authorities say a Fort Bragg soldier has been charged with creating a panic at a North Carolina mall after appearing there with an assault rifle and other military gear.
Fayetteville police say Bryan Scott Wolfinger, 25, was arrested and charged with "going armed to the terror of the public" in connection with Thursday's incident at Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.
A statement from the Fayetteville Police Department says Wolfinger was preparing to have photographs taken with the military equipment and rifle when 911 calls were received of an armed male at the mall.

Absent minded oversight made worse by a bunch of panicky liberals,(by the way, no law in NC against open carry of rifles) or Really stupid deserving of criminal charge?
Backpack and weapon were strapped across his back.
Musta been the assault clothes that got him.
Hope he sues them blind!
Ahhhhhhhh!! Hep me! Hep me! LOL!
Sounds like some cop made that up on location.
It’s 2015. The guy is an idiot.
After his CO reams his arse.
I have never heard of the charge they made against him. Are they making them up as they go?
Oh boy, not again.
He may have been within his rights to walk around a mall, literally armed for battle, but this was not at all a smart thing to do. If going for a photo session, he could have changed into those clothes inside of the photographer’s dressing room. I wonder if he just wanted to stage this as a passive protest against gun law overreach.
Not smart or necessary. Does he not know we are waiting for ISIS to fire there opening shot during this holiday weekend?
Too baad he’s white otherwise he could play the race card.
“going armed to the terror of the public”
With that grammar it sounds like something one would get on email from a Nigerian. I’d toss it in the trash can.
You’re an idiot.
He needs to claim, he is a black female.
I am surprised the solider and any number of civilians and every family dog for a mile around the mall isn’t dead.
They’ve never said where the photographer was. Was he in the mall?
How was he getting there. I assumed by car, but wife pointed out maybe walking, got hot took cool shortcut through the mall, forgot he had AR15 strapped to his back.
But above all else, good grief this is Fayetteville, home of Ft Bragg. This guy clearly looked like a soldier. Everyone in that mall knows someone from the base. If he walks in with the weapon in hand that’s one thing, but strapped across his backpack? With no magazine in the weapon. Are we that brainwashed that we assume something nefarious?
I don’t know. Playing devils advocate, and I guess you had to be there, but if I had been, I would have just walked up and asked “Dude, you know your AR is still on your back?” If he did , then maybe he deserves the admonishment.
Yeah, in most places. Fayetteville NC cops know shooting a soldier is a is a really bad idea. They’re gonna get an anal exam for it.
Ft Bragg is the lifeblood in that town.
Your post reflects my thoughts.
I hadn’t thought of the “passive protest” angle. A possibility, I suppose.
None the less, it wasn’t the wisest choice the guy could have made.
There is such a law in NC.
Very very rarely used.
I doubt it will get very far in court.
Now if he had been waving the weapon around, the charge would be understandable.
Its intended use was for occasions where an armed person acts like but does not harm anyone.
To be honest I feel “terror” seeing a group of feral ‘yutes’ than I would a soldier. Just go visit South America and you see armed soldiers everywhere. Then again in Obamanation I would feel suspicious seeing armed and packed soldiers. I have no doubt Obama would love to unleash the military on us all.
