Bubba Watson, the third-ranked golfer in the world and owner of one of the official General Lee cars from the late 1970s TV show "Dukes of Hazzard" has decided to paint over the Confederate flag that adorns the top of the widely recognizable vehicle.
Watson tweeted his plans Thursday night about the car he bought at auction several years ago for $110,000.
@bubbawatson All men ARE created equal, I believe that so I will be painting the American flag over the roof of the General Lee #USA 7:18 PM - 2 Jul 2015
You do not like Jordan Speith?
That would be like putting a Japanese flag on my Grandfathers memorial, not very appropriate. General Robert E Lee fought for the Confederate States of America, not the United States of America. There are very very few things that would be inappropriate to put an American flag on, the General Lee car is one of them.
That makes about as much sense as dedicating and naming a car after General Ulysses Grant and painting a Confederate flag on it.
People are morons.
Thanks
Perfect!
People should counter at PGA events and innocently enough, ask him, Are you planning on replacing it with the rainbow flag, Bubba?
What, do you hate gays???
The PGA said FU to the PC Trump boycot; I hope golf fan types stand up and slam ol Bubba to his face on TV.
That would be sweet.
What a dope. The cars value will plummet. He is destroying a collectors item
Actually, I don’t really like Golf. Bubba lives very near me and is said to be a very nice guy.
I’ll just root for Shaquille I guess, they let him play sometimes.
Rename the car!!!???
I think he needs to rename himself! Bubba!!?? There ain’t a more racist name out there than “Bubba”!
I hope Barret Jackson will be calling him in the AM, to either buy the car back. Or ban him from future auctions.
øbamist coward.

He is a very successful pro golfer. He probably has more in common with people that live in the Hamptons than he does with other guys called Bubba that you or I may know at this point in his life. i agree it would be very ignorant to paint that car and ruin it.
And what’s crazy is I had a 1968 Charger, it was in good condition just needed some bodywork, had a little rust in the usual places and needed a good paint job, just when the Dukes of Hazzard came on TV. Even Black people would kid me about how I should paint it orange and put the Confederate flag on the roof.
I think it’s essentially a panic move. That’s where we are.
I agree with all the other posts that say Watson should not do this.
However, it’s important to point out two things.
Watson was born and raised in the western part of the Florida panhandle. I don’t know if he qualifies for Red Neck status, but he is definitely a celebrity Southern Boy who might be uncomfortable with all the flag criticism.
Also, Watson is a devout Christian who speaks openly about his faith. I can see that the flag issue might make him uncomfortable on that level, too.
Then he should sell the car and not vandalize it.
