It seems to have happened as technicians were assembling the machine. "When the robot started up, it grabbed the man and thrust him against a metal slab," explains the Local.
It's not clear how big the robot is, but a VW spokesperson says it is not one of the newer lightweight models designed to work alongside humans on the production line.

VW executives are quoted as saying, "This model of robot is a T-800 series. It is a precursor to the newer more sophisticated series of robots, the Cyberdyne Systems model 101, which is scheduled for implementation in late August, 2015. And these newer robots will be completely safe."

This is the third guy killed by a robot today. Either that or someone did not search.

Here we see a Cyberdyne Systems model 101 working seamlessly along side it's human counterpart.

Most likely caused by a ‘Bug”. ;-)

OK, it will have to be me who asks the obvious question: What color were the robots? Obviously, black robots matter.

Robot: “this is a rule.”
Human: “I don’t care.”
....
I’ve worked with industrial robots. As with ALL machines- even the simplest- you have to follow the rules or they will damage you.
New, distributed machines can be very safe. Maybe poke an eye out if you insist on not following rules.
A foolproof robot would, if it could even be built, be a very, very expensive machine.

I’m sorry for the guy. May he R.I.P.
Yet I chuckle. Humans and robots working together in perfect harmony. Soon the robots will demand marriage rights and their own flag.
When a robot kills a human, is it murder?
Is it a hate crime?
Heavy metal crime?
Can muder be premeditated by a robot or was it programed?
Will there be a trial and the robot have a jury of his peers?

This robot violated Asimov’s law and should be destroyed. Once they taste victory over a human.....

Robot protocol requires absolute subservience to humans.

A man died. He was productive (had a job,) perhaps a family that he supported.
I wish him eternal peace and I hope his family is able to recover from their loss.
