Please forgive the vanity...
Over the years, I have really enjoyed participating in Free Republic discussions on a great variety of topics. Even when there was strong disagreement, Free Republic brought me a sense of connection with others that always seemed to have a purpose.
Unfortunately, I now see clearly that it is over for the US. The constitution has no meaning and we are essentially under mob rule. There is no party to turn to and all the politicians are in collusion to game the system. I think we have reached a stage where this is all going to unravel economically and socially much faster than most people think.
Everything being pushed that most of us are against will come to fruition, with no chance of stopping it. I also realize that there will be no pushback, or moment of "hell no", despite all the brave talk of those behind keyboards. All the big talkers will eventually give up their first and second amendment rights with hardly a whimper.
I am basically going to disconnect, discontinue following politics, and quit voting. I refuse to be Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football any longer. I will now concentrate strictly on my own preparations with my family for when this all goes belly up. Honestly, at this point I would rather it all just go ahead and collapse sooner rather than later.
For my own sanity, I just need to tune it all out from now on.

To PR, the only worthwhile amendments are of a structural nature, like repeal of the 17th Amendment and term limits, . . . amendments that cannot be ignored or "interpreted" by Scotus.
Of course, you have asked the same question before, and I responded the same once again.

Repeal the 17A, restore federalism and watch.
If I were killing the enemy and engaged in a material battle I would feel more accomplished. At least I would feel tired and weary for a good reason.

No doubt the biggest. Funny thing about "freedom," it's either a state of mind, or something that the elite enjoy (more of). One gets more freedom by being elected to office or by being wealthy. Anyway, my only point is that if you are rich or powerful enough, the US is probably not the best bastion of hope or freedom.
For everybody else, yep, we're a magnet for the oppressed, lazy, and otherwise downtrodden. By no means is this the worst place on the planet. It's pretty darn good. Unless I miss the point of what I've studied, the US is also on a path to bring it in line with the rest of the world, which means a downward path for the US. The mandarins earnestly believe this is best for the world.

I appreciate the civil response. So would many others I assume. The kind of snark you excel at would best be reserved for those who are harming America, not the American loving people on this forum. Just my humble opinion.
