There has been vigorous debate in the Free Republic Forums recently between the propel who think the TPP and TPA are good and that we need Free Trade, and the staunch protectionists out there, and the middle of the road variety like myself that don't want such things but still recognize that we need trade. We have learned many things about each other, but one of the things I have come to realize is that the "free trade" has a lot of issues.
The way I see it, the only way Free Trade will EVER work properly, (especially with China_ would be if the following domestic policies are implemented BEFORE we even consider signing a free trade pact with any country.
1. Elimination of the Minimum Wage, Let the market itself decide the cost of Labor for the Job.
2. Elimination of over 90% of current Federal and State Environmental and Labor Regulations on businesses. Complete gutting of the EPA and OSHA would be required with whatever remnant remained be turned over to the state.
3. Elimination of Federal Taxes on Goods and Service and Labor, ie. No more Income Tax, Death tax, Luxury Taxes, etc etc...
4. Drastic Tort reform in the business sphere to remove superfluous product liability laws and ambulance chasers to reduce the cost of gratuitous lawsuits on businesses. Gutting of the FDA, the FTC, and other Alphabet agencies that deal high legal costs onto businesses.
5. Remove support for Unions coming from the federal government. Make it so unions have to compete with the free market and no longer can lean on "uncle Sugar" for support, if they provide their workers a superior service and help their workers become more productive then yay, it is a win-win, if they exploit their member's fees for their own union bosses political shenanigans, then they will go bankrupt and not one will be there to bail their sorry asses out. Make it illegal for the usual union intimidation tactics to be practiced, the same tactics that would get a private citizen in trouble, but that grubermint currently looks the other way at.
Only after a MAJORITY of the above items are Complete and checked off the list can we even Entertain the idea that we can compete via "Free Trade" otherwise we are simply handing over the rope that the other totalitarian countries like China will hang us by.
Right now one of the reasons Free Traders are laughed at is because they appear to be putting the cart before the horse.
We gotta hitch up the Horses of a well running economic engine FIRST before we can successfully entertain Free Trade. This is why in our current condition free trade will ONLY work against us unless we are only free trading with countries that are congruent on the social/political/economic levels as ourselves, such as Canada, the UK, Germany, and a few other 1st world countries.
bump
If the United States collapses. The entire world will go through a collapse. did you notice that Russia is putting its monetary value into the Chinese Yuan. Oddly enough the world has already divide up the Us into 7 zones for when it collapses. It will be an interesting time. i honestly believe that the power brokers in DC have already planned for America’s demise and how they will survive!
“TPP is probably as much about free trade as Obamacare is about health care.
Nailed it. And, the enabling legislation, TPA, is up for a vote in the Senate probably tomorrow. We will again be reminded of who is in bed with the Obama agenda.
[ Oddly enough the world has already divide up the Us into 7 zones for when it collapses. ]
Do you have a map?
Vigorous debate on FR? Say it ain’t so! /s
How would you fund needed Federal, State and local governments?
I see two section 7s.... and I live in one of them, Colorado...
Some of these have been advocated by a Russian professor Panarin and Fl was added by a separate viewpoint. in that the US indebted to so many countries would take the land
Here are the 7 zones:
Florida - Cuba
Alaska - Russia
Hawaii - Japan
WA, OR, CA ID, NV, UT and AZ (West) - China
NM, TX, OK, AK, LA, MS, AL, GA ( South) - Mexico
MT, WY, CO, ND, SD, KS, NE, MO, IA, MN, WI, IL, IN, OH, and MI - Canada
SC, NC, TN, KY, WV, VA, Dist of Columbia, DE, MD, NJ, PA, NY, CN, RI, MA, NH, VT, and ME - European Union
"But, generally speaking, the Protective system in these days is conservative, while the Free Trade system works destructively. It breaks up old nationalities and carries antagonism of proletariat and bourgeoisie to the uttermost point. In a word, the Free Trade system hastens the Social Revolution. In this revolutionary sense alone, gentlemen, I am in favor of Free Trade.
welcome...
welcome to the dark side...
we will accept you with open arms...
however, among so called unionist conservatives..
you will be shunned..
welcome
There is no such thing as free trade with a country that ignores the agreement, actively undermines the agreement with government intervention, reverse engineers trade goods then sells it back to you, and ignores copyrights.
Note to self, start using “eh?” at the end of sentences that ask questions....
Now I gotta thing a-boot what this all means...
Did you know?
1.Import duty for most South American countries is 30% for us,0% for them.
2.Import duty for India 30% for us 0% for them.
3.China does not really permit imports. You must get a Chinese partner and produce there. Any equipment you need for production or raw materials must be purchased there.
They then get rights to you IP.
So where is the free trade?
That is what we do up here in the UP of MI already, eh. Everything ends in eh. Ya der it is, eh? Remember canadian money is worth more in the US. Gasoline is sold in metric units instead of a gallon. A radio is even pronounced differently. Also get used to the Canadian Tom Horton Coffee being sold. (i do not drink it, but when i had to drive back from sault Sainte Marie MI, my neighbor lady travelling along called it the worse cup of coffee she ever drank!)
remember Obamatrade is 12 nations - Mexico, US, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Brunei, Japan, New Zealand, Korea and three more!
Yes, O’ Canada is becoming recognized as the National Anthem here in the UP of MI. Soon we will have to make a pilgrimage to Toronto just to be able watch a national sport team Blue Jays, or go to Edmonton to see the hockey team
Unless we can stop the invasion, wages are going down.
Flooding a labor market with illegal aliens can have no other effect.
How many Americans could be employed if the illegal aliens couldn’t find work because we enforced the laws?
