So it’s official. Bruce Jenner is now a “woman.” He calls himself Caitlyn.
Cue the social media, social justice warriors delivering the grandiose, unnecessary compliments. “Oh she’s so brave!” “We’re so proud of you!” “Caitlyn, you’re a hero!”
Listen, I don’t begrudge Bruce Jenner for wanting to be happy. Everyone wants to be happy. The problem is that with the recent, hyper-aggressive push to normalize transgenderism, we’ll no longer be able to discuss whether some decisions made in the pursuit of happiness are healthful. Because… hate speech.
Many people, including many in the gay community, think that transgenderism is a mental condition more effectively treated with psychiatry than surgery. I get where leftists are coming from; this person isn’t hurting anybody (aside from themselves), so what difference does it make? On the surface, it seems like a reasonable position to hold. One that quickly falls apart when you begin to examine it more closely.
Apotemnophilia is a fetish in which people wish to become an amputee. They find sexual satisfaction and ultimately, happiness, through the act of the removal of limbs or simulating the removal of limbs. There are websites, message boards and get-togethers devoted exclusively to the activity. As a general rule, society doesn’t consider this to be healthful. Some of us may accept it, ignore it and move on with our lives, but we don’t praise it or trot apotemnopheliacs out as heroes. And let’s be honest… most of us think it’s pretty damn weird.
Now, change that limb to a penis. If you don’t accept it, even worse, if you don’t praise it, you’re deemed hateful. The politically correct lobbyists of the day will take great care in avoiding the staggeringly high suicide rate of transgenders, they will ignore the medical reality that sex change operations and hormone replacement therapies come with a litany of very serious health problems, heck, they’ll ignore overall science.
If you choose not to do so, you will be deemed hateful. This is the playbook. Know it, learn it, expect it. Bruce ‘Caitlyn’ Jenner, will be their poster child.
Something that was discussed on this week’s podcast, and something that I find to be an incredibly interesting point from Milo Yiannopoulous, is that the entire leftist theory on which transgender acceptance is based, forces leftists into a rough juxtaposition to begin with.

See, if it’s truly possible that a male body can be born with the wrong brain, or that a female body can be born with a male brain… it forces the left to concede that gender is not merely a product of societal construct, but biology. If, in order to avoid classifying transgenderism as a psychiatric disorder, we’re required to recognize the inherent biological, scientifically measurable differences between genders… that creates incredible contradictions for feminism, gay rights progress and ultimately, yes, transgenderism.

I have no idea. I am of the belief that magazines photoshop EVERYONE on the covers (except conservatives maybe?), so that equalizes it out.

This is just bad science, incorrect science.
No woman is born with a man’s brain. No man is born with a woman’s brain. Their genetics are XX for female, XY for male.
What they COULD be suffering from, is a female body who’s hormone levels are abnormal, and are either creating too much testosterone (for a woman) and too little testosterone/too much estrogen for a man.
Hormonal imbalances can be medically dealt with, and to la lesser extent, through diet as well. For women eating more soy and other estrogen-mimicking substances, and for men, avoiding soy and other estrogen-mimicking substances.
I agree that there is no need to celebrate. It’s ridiculous. It’s people overcompensating for their own discomfort with it all. At least FReepers are honestly uncomfortable, though many are just mocking.

My concern is that the agenda of all this publicity is that we do owe such people society’s financial and other support. By extension, everyone with any kind of problem (and that includes most of us) deserve the same ... or we have battles between identity groups over who deserves what ... which is pretty much were we are right now, politically
I’m positing the slippery slope argument but I don’t think one can argue that we aren’t already a good way down the slippery slope with identity politics. The extreme publicity of Jenner’s case points to more of the same.
Some people live their entire life with long term mental illnesses. This is no different from people who suffer from Body Integrity Identity disorder. There are people out there who literally feel as if they should have an arm or a leg amputated. Some get over it, some do not, but the mental problem of someone who thinks they are the wrong sex is no different from someone who thinks they should have an arm or leg missing.
That some form of treatment doesn't work does not mean someone is mentally healthy. It just means they haven't figured out or can't treat the cause yet.
I wish Bruce the best too, but the emerging long term research does suggest that increased happiness is not a certainty, though statisticly the risks for things like suicide, mortality and psychiatric morbidity are higher than the general population. Personally I think reassignment, like amputation in my examples, is at best a questionable form of therapy .
Another potential downside is the fact that widespread acceptance will require gender identity disorder to be dropped as a psychiatric diagnosis, presumably ending research into other therapies.

Yes, western Civ is currently praising transsexuals. It may be part of the old commie / world domination agenda. I’m not causing any of it just because I am a conservative who chooses not to mock people with brain disorders.
A lot of mental illness has sexual overtones, including this one of thinking you ought to be female when you have XY chromosome pairs.
I’m sorry. I know that when Laz and other addicts chime in sometimes, there can be strong support. Some of those threads were so kind I got tears in my eyes. But mocking comes quick to the finger around here, even though many people claim to be religious. I’m not perfect with the Golden Rule but I try.
As I noted in my last post, research not seems to be suggesting BIID, which imo shares many characteristics with gender identity disorder including sexual issues, may well be a neurological rather than psychiatric disorder. Yet to suggest gender identity disorder might be psychiatric or neurological in nature is becoming politically incorrect. As will the research.

I don't remember any particular incidents in the bible where God rained down fire and brimstone on two cities filled with gossipers. I sort of regard the vehemence with which he burned everyone alive as sort of a measure of his tolerance on the subject.
I simply don’t believe we owe anyone from the government / tax payers much of anything. But I know what you mean, taxpayers still pay for abortions every day.
If there were a successful treatment, that worked toward contentment 80% of the time, maybe there would be some foundations and charities to help them. Gender reassignment only works as above about 50%. That is not great. Bruce is hoping to be in that better half.
