Harlan Ellison is still an angry young man, except he'll be 81 on May 27. He has used this anger, fueled by childhood anti-Semitism, throughout his extraordinary career as a writer of speculative fiction. This year saw the publication of his 116th and 117th (so far) books: The Top of the Volcano, a collection of his awardwinning short stories, and a graphic novelization of his original script for "The City on the Edge of Forever," widely considered the best Star Trek episode ever written.
Although Ellison's hundreds of published stories contain a wealth of Jewish characters, his most complex creation is Ellison himself. Born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio in 1934 and raised in nearby Painesville, "We were not very Jewish," he said of his family. "I was a Shabbos Jew. We were Jewish when it came to the High Holy Days. The rest of the time, the only time Jewishness was brought up was when somebody called somebody a kike and there had been a fight. And that was usually me."

No need to explain. I am very familiar with the naming conventions of your people. Had you been male it would be TumiciousKnid.
Is the graphic novelization of the City on The Edge of Forever going to follow the TV plot or his original plot??It's based on the original screenplay by Ellison.
HaHA! That’s funny papertyger! I wish I could go back and change my screen name. So many fellow FReepers think I’m a boy. Sigh.
Regards,
Happy Birthday,
“ Uncle Harlan!”
My favorite Ellison is, "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream"...
I have no Wi-Fi, and I must Blog!
At his best he was a great short story writer.
Oh yes, that is clear.
“Soldier”
I was very much inspired by his excellent collection of short stories called “Deathbird”. Some of the best short fiction I have ever read, and I have read a considerable amount of short fiction.
Yes, so tragic the way she died.
When William Shatner and Joan Collins are walking together on the street, they pass in front of a shop with the name Floyd’s Barber Shop clearly painted on the window. This is the same Floyd’s Barber Shop that is often seen on The Andy Griffith Show (1960), adjacent to the sheriff’s office, in the town of Mayberry.
