Only 63 percent of Americans have saved any money for retirement within the past year, according to a Federal Reserve survey released Wednesday.
The survey of 5,800 Americans, conducted last fall, found that 31 percent of Americans have no retirement savings or pension plans. And among adults older than 45, almost 25 percent of respondents didn't have retirement savings. Thirty-eight percent of respondents, meanwhile, said they don't plan on retiring and will "keep working as long as possible," USA Today reports.

I am surprised more than 20% have any honestly. The vast majority of people can barely walk and chew gum at the same time based upon my observations at Walmart.

I expect to die in a re-education camp, so I’m not making long-term plans.

A kid who would have been in my high school class dropped out in the 9th grade and went to work as a heavy equipment operator. He stepped off the dozer one day and hurt his back. He's been on disability since the 60s.

What a profound statement! The vast majority? A WalMart ‘sampling’ surely does NOT constitute a ‘vast majority’.
It seems though you count yourself as one of that ‘vast majority’, you being a WalMart shopper.
You go there for the ‘blue light specials’? Oh, wait, that was K-Mart.

It's the welfare state mentality. People feel they will always be taken care of by a government check if they fall on hard times, so in the meantime, they spend every penny they make without a care in the world about how they will finance their retirement.
Sadly, those who were responsible and saved for retirement, will have most of that money seized by the government - for redistribution to those who did not save.
To: SeekAndFind
No problem. The producers have wealth to redistribute.

I’ve heard talk in recent years, that we could see 401k and IRA accounts as we know them disappear. We could all be compelled to invest such accounts in government bonds as an investment. There are several trillions dollars worth of such savings which politicians may be eyeing to help save Social Security.

I expect to die before they drag me into the camp. Hopefully I can take out a few of the enemy First.

Actually yes. I plan to work whether I have retirement or not. My own company
and then there's the garden and flock to tend to.
