San Jose Bans Filling Hot Tubs, Pools Amid California’s Historic Drought
CBS San Francisco ^ | May 11, 2015 | Len Ramirez

San Jose is the latest big city in the state to ban filling outdoor swimming pools, and business at hot tub stores in the city has gone cold.

“From the day the drought was declared, and the city council announced its restrictions on filling of hot tubs, it’s closed our doors,” Hot Spring Spas sales manager Chet Lockwood said.

The store is still open, but no one is coming in, and layoffs may not be far behind.

“We can’t see how we’re going to be able to survive through this,” Lockwood said.

San Jose’s city council sent a serious message about the drought, lumping 350-gallon spas in with 20,000 gallon swimming pools in the ban.

“If you’re building a pool today, you can fill it with recycled water or have your kids skateboard in it but you can’t fill it with potable drinking water,” Mayor Sam Liccardo said.

Lockwood says the spas can have health benefits, and can actually help residents save water.

“This is a very small amount of water that we can reuse, and reuse, and reuse,” Lockwood said

I learned that phrase from “Heartbreak Ridge” :) GREAT movie with Clint and a young Mario.

First time I heard the word cluster@#$@ too lol.

As far as CA, if only there was a way to turn sea water into tap water...alas...

This entire drought would end if they simply declared the Delta Smelt fish extinct, and diverted all water back to human usage. Republicans should run for office on that platform. Water for you, not a fish you don’t eat.

You can build a pool for your family, but you can’t fill it with water. Why would anyone want to live in California?

In gardening circles, the term “graywater” has ousted “sustainable” as #1 in popular usage. I spent a few hours yesterday trying to find the answer to a simple question about southern CA gardens: what’s blooming in your garden right now? All anyone’s talking about is water.
As for pools, salt water pools are trendy these days. Pretty soon one of those solar energy fraudistos will turn into a salt water pipeline entrepreneur. :)

Geez, you aren’t kidding, Matt. The ‘Golden State’ sure has lost it’s luster. That’s what happens when the inmates are running the asylum.

I bet a quick flyover of Hollywood and Malibu would show lush green lawns and brimming full hot tubs and pools at the homes of the leftist elites. Water restrictions are for the little people

Liccardo .. One term loser.. at this rate.

Not sure why anyone would want to be Mayor here.

The city is potholes, illegals and liebral a-holes run it all.

A Perfect Storm of Incompetence, SElf-Promotion and Chutzpah.. An All-American City (composed of uhhh) . fitting title.

Will he make the almond growers cut back on water usage? Oh that delta smelt is going to be extinct soon. The plan with this water isn’t helping them. Heard that on John and Ken.

I doubt there are almond growers in San Jose, so he has no option to do that.
