The National Football League suspended New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for four regular season games without pay "for conduct detrimental to the integrity of the NFL," the league announced Monday afternoon.

The league also announced that the team—which won the Super Bowl earlier this year—would be fined $1 million and forced to forfeit its first-round pick in the 2016 draft and its fourth-round selection in the 2017 draft.

I guess it is easier to speak for somebody when it’s not your future or reputation on the line. Emotions and incompetence and fear get the best of you. That’s why we have lawyers and agents.

He should have just said “hey look, I told our equipment guys that I like the balls deflated as much as legally possible. That’s all I know. I just throw the ball. Or hand it off.”

Read the article it was for LACK OF COOPERATION.

...

I did read the article. Did I miss something? I didn’t see where “lack of cooperation” was why he was suspended.

All the NFL has is assumptions and inferences. The article did say Brady is going to appeal.

The issue is Tom’s lack of cooperation via his relevant texts and the Pats’ lack of cooperation via not making their equipment guy available.

It is also, IMO, reasonable to draw inferences that lack of cooperation.

...

Would you turn over your private communications to your employer? Would you want to be punished based on inferences and exercising your rights? Am I really on a Conservative forum?

This politically correct atmosphere is going to ruin all major sports. They should get a warning and a 25,000 dollar fine like the rules proscribe. this is no different than teflon spraying jerseys, spitters, corked bats, and the thousands of other little tricks every sports team engages in!

This is just a slap on the wrist.

This is the way it's going to be, but seriously?

The balls were deflated to 1 or 2 psi below spec. In the second half, the Pats scored more points.

It's a trivial matter, like putting too much rosin on a baseball bat.

The penalty on the books is a $25k fine.

A harsher penalty is justifiable for failure to cooperate with the investigation, but the loss of a first round draft choice is ridiculous.

It will be appealed and dropped to a fine only.

Only Brady's suspension can be appealed.

I guess if Aaron Rogers did something like that he be suspended for two years.

Rogers has publicly stated that he likes the balls over-inflated. No suspension yet.

The ruling did mention that he was uncooperative with the investigation. I’m hearing on sports talk here that there were inconsistencies with his version of events.

...

So that makes a person guilty? Is a player required to convict himself? I read the actual report.

The official who measured the balls didn’t record any of the pressures. He had two gauges that turned out to differ quite a bit on their readings compared to each other. The official doesn’t know which gauge he used. The gauges obviously aren’t standardized or calibrated.

They measured four of the Colt’s balls at halftime with both gauges (in addition to all of the Patriot’s balls), and all of the Colt’s balls measured lower than what the official said they were before the game. In fact one of them measured below the legal 12.5 limit.

I don’t think anyone would want to be judged guilty based on the NFL’s lack of professionalism and accuracy when measuring the footballs. At worst Brady should get a warning.

The Pats should also be stripped of their AFC championship and Superbowl victories.

Boo hoo Mean ole Brady beat them like a rented mule even after they put another lb.of p.s.I in the balls at half time.

What’s worse. He wouldn’t pay along with the Show trial. Off with his head /s
