Origin: 1890-95; < Yiddish shlemil < Hebrew shəlumīʾēl Shelumiel, a Biblical and Talmudic figure, one of the Judges. Specific historical references are unclear. In contemporary Hebrew, to do something in Shelumielesque fashion means so inept as to be destined hopelessly to fail.

Is it not amazing that a person of such eloquence (Joe Biden), charm (Chris Matthews) and luck could end up as the ultimate schlemiel for the country that he has led?

Actually, amazing is the term to be used by those who desire the denigration of this country, those who love this country would be more inclined to use the word, horrifying!

PS: for those who are PC, I do not apologize for using proper English in the selection of the word ‘denigration’. Your vapors and hyper-victimization are your own problem, not mine!
