Four burly Swedish cops put their New York City vacation on hold to answer the call of duty on a Manhattan subway train last night.
The friends were on their way to see Les Misérables on Broadway, DNA Info reports, and rushed in to stop a brutal assault on a crowded rush-hour 6 train.
'We came here for vacation. Weve been here one day. Were no heroes, just tourists,' Makrus Åsberg, a 25-year-old officer with the police Uppsala, Sweden, told the New York Post. Mr Asberg, along with Erik Naslund, Samuel Kvarzell and Eric Jansberger, subdued an enraged homeless man who was viciously beating another rider on the train.
The Samaritan Scandinavians stopped the violence and held the attacker until the NYPD could arrive, the Post reports.
Video from the incident shows Kvarzell and Asberg holding the suspect down and trying to calm him down as he screams.

And they like show tunes, what’s not to like!
bump
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackass will probably be screaming racism and want them charged with a hate crime.
I liked Phantom a lot more.
The Lexington Avenue local. A mental hospital on steel wheels.
Wow! Kudos, guys!
I like the terms the writer used: Samaritan Scandinavians, Nordic lawmen. He had fun writing this.
Cool!
They’ll probably get sued.
Contrary to what you might think, they are well-armed when on duty in Sweden: “Almost all officers wear a waistbelt which carries a service pistol (the official side arms for the Swedish police are the SIG Sauer P225, P226, P228, P229, and P239), extra magazine, expandable baton, handcuffs, TETRA radio, mobile phone, pepper spray, keys and gloves. All police officers must carry identification.”
But it seems they can get by without all that equipment when necessary.
Picked the wrong train to make an assault.
Well done indeed.
At one time in the 20th century the Stockholm police carried sabers.
Miracles never cease, no one was shot, not even a puppie. This is the way it should be done. US cops take note.
Yes - and loaded with SPEER Gold Dot HP bulleted ammunition. Just like the French police and other more enlightened European police forces. Terrorists and civilian criminals are no longer afforded The Hague Convention niceties concerning civilized warfare.
I saw this on a Lillyhamer episode.
Fab-u-lous!
