I was in Liseberg Park, Sweden's Coney Island, in the summer of 1971. The Swedish cops were rousting some local Yute (no not a vistor from the south) for drunk and disorderly. They were doing the full Rodney King all over him, six on one. The cops were big, but so was this guy, and he looked like he never knew what hit him.
In this instance in New York, if this jerk had caught a heart attack or resisted violently, this story might not have ended so well. My cousin was "on the job" on the NYPD for twenty years and never drew his piston once, including at least one tour in Harlem. Depends on the individual, I suppose.

Every single day there are tens of thousands if not millions of police/public interactions, yet to your dismay there are no rivers of blood flowing down Main St, no mountains of dead bodies on every street corner. Are there bad cops? Yeah, just like there are bad doctors, bad lawyers, bad preachers, etc. That’s a normal part of any society.
