It appears that Star Trek Beyond may be the title of the upcoming Star Trek film, lucky number 13 in the franchise. As far as the storyline is concerned, the title suggests that the new film will venture farther out into the galaxy than we have seen in the previous two Abrams films, as co-writer Simon Pegg has been hinting at for some time now.

I enjoyed the ones directed by Frakes. His second one had his budget cut in half, so he wasn’t able to bring in everything that he wanted to do.
Well, they have a new writing team for this one, so hopefully they can get things back on track.
I still Jonathan Frakes should be a cereal pitchman in Japan. Think of the profits to be made from “Flosted Frakes”!
I wonder what horrible thing they’re going to do to christopher pike in this movie. clearly, death means nothing in the star trek screen writer’s minds.
“let’s resurrect him, and then the gorn that kirk allowed to live in the original series eats him!”
Star Trek vs Star Wars?
Wouldn’t even be a contest, the Federation would be wiped out in weeks.
You’d be pitting a civilization that has had space travel for a couple centuries against a civilization that has had space travel (and galactic interstellar warfare) for thousands of years.
Wow. I thought both Abrams ST movies were excellent.
How you found it boring....from the save the primitive planet beginning. To the attack on star fleet London to the fight with the Klingons to the crash of the huge starship into San Francisco to Spock’s fight on moving vehicles near the end I don’t see boring. Not your cup of tea? Maybe. But not boring
I agree and I was not really a fan of the old Star Trek. The old Star Trek (all of it before JJ Abrams) was like some sort of private club where you had to know all sorts of backstory before you could understand what the story was really about.
The new movies both stand on their own and I liked them for making the Star Trek story accessible to me.
I was a fan since I was 17 in 1966 when it came out. But I can see how the current permutations by JJ Abrams could appeal to both fan boys and new viewers alike.
I wish it would have been ready at the same time as the Star Wars movie.
I would buy a ticket just to sit and watch the fans on opening day.
I loved the original series. It came on when I was young and the best thing about it was the characters and good stories. Even so there were some weak episodes.
Nothing since has been really good. A few were watchable. There were two really hot girls. T-pole and 9.9 out of 10 were almost too hot, certainly too hot to be running around a crew of mostly men.
Did you see the size of Shatner?? You can’t miss him. Search would be over before the curtains came up!
There seems to be 3 big things that really irritated the old Trek fans about JJ-Trek
It’s a reboot, with so much continuity and so much continuity worship in the fanbase a Trek that basically starts from the premise of “who really cares what the 3rd button from the left did in Trouble with Tribbles” was bound to irritate
It’s fun, Trek had gotten very bogged down in procedural over thinking diplomatic talking, and JJ punted all that to make action movies
And the biggest thing that really gets their goat:
They were really popular and made giant piles of cash, more than any of the previous movies, and got great reviews.
I enjoyed the heck out of them. But I never joined the culty part of Trek fandom (or any other fandom).
Ah yes, Jeri Ryan.
The woman who gave us Barack Obama.
“Wow. I thought both Abrams ST movies were excellent.”
His 2009 movie saved Star Trek as much as the hardcore Trekkers hate to admit it. They usually respond with snarky nonsense like the 2009 movie was for vapid people that don’t understand the intellectual complexities of trash like “Nemesis” or “Generations” or “Insurrection” (though I liked Insurrection). I’m glad I am not as brilliant as those types are :-).
I found the 2009 movie to be awesome (I’m only a fan of TOS, Seasons 3-6 of TNG, and Enterprise). My wife frigging cried at the beginning. I don’t think I blinked until right after Vulcan took a trip down the black hole :-). I hadn’t walked out of a theater with a grin like the one I had on my face in a long, long time. For whatever reason, I flat out love every single frame of that movie :-). I had the BluRay the day it came out ... and I RARELY buy movies anymore.
I had insanely high hopes for “Into Darkness”. While it certainly looked beautiful and had its moments (the ones you mentioned actually), it was too predictable for me. It didn’t have that same “awesomeness” as the 2009 film.
Also, JJ did a great job resetting timeline. However, having a whole new timeline, why would you rehash an old story??? They could have done anything they wanted yet they go and remake an existing movie with some predictable plot twists. And while I love the actor that plays that Lt. Harrison, he was a poor choice for ‘the’ bad guy. They could have used him as another evil guy and saved ‘the’ bad guy for someone more fitting.
Anyway, I hope they get back on track with this new one. I love the characters of TOS ... I’d hate to see this reboot die off way too early ... they have so much potential.
But the problem with Into Darkness is you had to be a fan of the OLD SERIES to enjoy, otherwise Cumberbatch’s overly dramatically, “I am Khaaan!” is really quite silly.
At this point, Kirk, who had never met Khan would just shrug his shoulders and say, “So?”
I am not a trekkie, but I enjoyed the original series. I enjoyed seeing it go to big screen and was a fan of Wrath, Search, Voyage Home, and Undiscovered Country. I dislike when every episode becomes a save the Earth, destroy the Enterprise, over the top crisis, which is what all the new movies seem to be. I had hopes that Abrams would take the reboot back to the 5 year mission with some good original story lines that do what trek does best, focus on the characters. Instead, so far they rehash going back in time, imploding planets, and other nonsense. I would be happy if this next one, which I will see regardless, can get away from old Spock, stand alone from the last two disasters, and boldly go where no man (or writer) has gone 10 times before.
That pretty much was Kirk’s and Spock’s reaction to that revelation. Kirk seemed like he was about to say “Who?”
Talk about anticlimactic, particularly given the secrecy and misinformation regarding the character during the production.
Whew. I wasn’t the only person that fell asleep during Abram’s 2, the wrath of drag on scenes. I tried three times to watch the film. I fell asleep each time. I managed to catch the entirety after 3 sittings. Was it worth it? Hardly.
