A Florida teenager is recovering after being bitten in the face by a water moccasin.
The bite happened last Saturday, according to investigators with Florida Fish and Wildlife, two days after Austin Hatfield, 18, captured it in his girlfriend's yard in Wimauma.

Growing up down there I can remember nothing cleared a pond quicker than a water moccasin sighting.

Summed up a lot what many parents are like today.
I was inside the house about to open the sliding back door when I saw it go by. I closed the door right away and the cotton mouth was trying to get me even though I was on the other side of the glass.
Those fangs and white mouth is something I did not want to mess with.
Seeing as we get a few snakes here from time to time then most are harmless , but I will shoot the next dangerous one I ever see.
Just not worth it to play around with snakes like that

I saw my share of snake handlers growing up.
I had a lot more respect (if you want to call it that) for those that didn’t pull theirs out of a cooler full of ice. Even I have held a small rattler straight out of the cooler.
But not for long.
letting a cottonmouth kiss you on the lips is never a good thing.
Have known a few. Fish farmers and dopers, not much else happening there.
All water snakes appear to have a bad attitude. The ones we have in Michigan aren’t venomous but they are very quick to bite and can give you a nasty infection.
In 1955, when I was 9, I tried to grab a 4ft. water moccasin that was in our bathroom. He bit me on the hand. He was faster than me. My dad rushed me and the dead snake (he killed it) to the local emergency room where they identified the snake, gave me a shot of the correct anti-venom, another shot for tetanus and then a surgeon took over an hour to remove the fangs and teeth from my palm where I’d been bitten. That was in Annapolis, Maryland.
I really hate snakes.

Nope. You are eligible if you remove your ability to procreate. Death is only one of the methods to do so.
Also, you have to have not reproduced, so as to eliminate your genes from the pool.

She was in the hospital for weeks.Two or three years later her teeth start to decay from the inside out from the venom and she had to get all implants.
She has had several other side issues from the venom. Not fun!
