Okay Freepers. Time to play Freeper MD.
For three weeks my hip has been killing me. left side.
Doesn't hurt when I jabbed with my thumb.
Has been hurting when I lay on it.
The last three days, it has been hurting when I sit.
My vainglorius head is getting bigger but, I discern no deformation or growth in the area of pain.
As I sit here typing this out, it is throbbing.
Get to guessing.
Bursitis? Just the fun of being a bit over 50? Hypochondriac? I'm no longer hip?
My guess it bursitis. I am pretty flexible. Can still nearly do the splits, though not as well I did when worked out all the time and I put my palms on the floor and go further just to show off.
Male 51 Dashing looks Vain
Get on with it...
Just curious if y'all have any experience and it turned out to be something a cortisone shot took care of.

Be sure to get it checked out since acute pain can cause a change in gait, and a change in gait can make the pain a chronic condition. Mild excercise in a pool might help and this can help to decompress any pinched nerve in your lower back. Also soaking in epsom salt baths might help to relieve inflammation. Get a blood test for inflammatory mediators and you might want to start regular low dosage NSAIDS, but only if the doctor approves.
Ditto. If it's intense pain, see a doctor. But a lot of muscular pain can be attributed to trigger points.
Trace your fingers over the painful area. See if you can detect a slight bump on the muscle. If that small bump is real painful, it's probably a trigger point. Press down hard on the area of pain for 7-10 seconds. You might actually feel a squish as the TP is eliminated. Many times pressure works in eliminating the pain.
Do that for several days. If the pain doesn't disappear, see the doctor.
Is the pain on the bone of the hip? I had that and thought it was a bad hip joint. The Dr said the pain was not near the crotch so it was not where the joint attaches to the pelvis. He said that there is a ligament that runs from the hip, down the outside right over the femur and it often gets inflamed due to roughness.
He gave me some exercises to stretch out that ligament. After a couple of months the pain was gone.
Hey Vendome..
I had the same kind of pain with my left hip joint after an injury working out (marital arts). I kept padding my bed with comforters etc (doing motrin, ben gay, etc..etc..), eventually bought a four inch memory foam mattress top and my pain went away. It didn’t excuse the problem (calcified cartridge in my joint); but it gave me MUCH needed relief. The topper cost me less than $200.00 bucks. I still have to go in and have my joint “sculpted”, but for now, I can sleep without pain and get a full night sleep. For what it is worth, my mattress is over 10 years old; so it is lacking.
YMMV..
Best of luck
I had bursitis in my heel went to an ortho doc and he gave me a cortisone shot...instant relief never had that problem again
Ask your primary care doctor for the name of a good ortho guy who practices his trade as close as possible to where you live.
My hip pain was terrible...turned out to be spinal degeneration from the normal aging process (with arthritis setting in) with the spinal pain radiating out to the hip.
A two-part series of shots (after xrays, of course) are administered to me. The two shots of cortisone are mixed with some other state-of-the-art newer drugs into what my ortho jokingly calls a "cortisone cocktail".....and are administered a week or so apart.
Does the trick for me. My hip would hurt so much I would be virtually bedridden for a couple days. But no mas!
No need to suffer in this day and age....and don't pay all that attention to "you need a new hip" garbage....that's scary talk, but chances are you have arthritis or stenosis or whatever. If it's more than what I've described, he'll let you know...and either way, you'll rest easier.
Good luck, darlin'....freepmail me if I can be of more help.

I had sciatica years ago. A doctor examined me and said it was because my back muscles were stronger than my stomach muscles and I was pinching a nerve. He told me to do a few situps a day which I did, the pain was gone and I have not had it for thirty five years.
I hate sugary sodas.
Joke:
So a fellow come crashing through the front door of the veterinary office screaming “Doctor, Doctor! My baby isn’t moving”
Doctor takes a look and responds “Yer lil feller is dead. So sorry”
“Can’t be! Can’t be! I want a second opinion!” he exclaims.
Doctor says “Okay” brings in a Russian Blue. It sniffs at the lil feller, walks up one side and down the other, then looks at the Vet.
Doctor says “Sorry, still dead”.
“Ho Nohhhh! Please, I need another opinion, just to be sure!” he pleads.
So the Doctor brings a nice looking black dog which sniffs at the lil feller and it too proceeds to walk up one side and then other and it too looks at the Vet.
Doctor says “Well, that’s three opinions and again, sorry about yer lil feller”.
“Guess I owe you for the visit at least” the guy says sobbing.
Doctor hands him the bill and looks at then exasperated says “What the hell is this? $600 dollars!!??”
Doctor replies “Well yes. That’s $200 for the visit, $200 for the cat scan and $200 hundred for the lab report”.
finito..
I get it too, sitting riding in the car, sitting in the chair, sleeping on one side or the other..
In my case had it since birth..
No point of guessing.... Need to go see a good doctor and get a X-Ray
It could be something serious like Lyme disease.
I wish I had good news for you, but not a MD...
Need to have a blood test to make sure its not Lyme disease.
Our dog had Lyme disease and we didn’t know it until he had his check up..
I wish the best for you...
You now what. When I had sciatica I was told the same thing.
Can’t hurt and I have a bit of paunch.
He was my wife's doctor. Nice guy.
Yeah, I have a friend who is the best and if doesn’t subside, I’ll be in his office next week.
They usually ignore the obvious.
Time to quit using weird positions.. LOL..
My first comment in over 2 or 3 years.. wow
*** inability of kidney to evacuate uric acid from your system. It leads to cristalizing of uric salts,***
Gout. People years ago when my grandma was alive always thought gout was another name for laziness.
**Go see a top rate orthopedist and get an x-ray. **
Could also be dislocated.
Cortisone is great for relief, but it doesn’t do anything for the underlying cause. It can break an inflammatory injury cycle such as with an acute injury, but if there is an underlying chronic cause for pain such as loss of joint cartilage, it is just delaying a more appropriate treatment.
This is on the outside of the hip, at the corner.
Always thought I was immune given my flexibility but, who knows..
I love to stretch but, I haven’t been doing all of them over the last three years with my shoulder operations.
I can do em now and should go back to regularly stretching...
That was good. Come back again in another 2 or 3 years. LOL.
