Barack Obama's time as a sitting American President is running out. If he plans to do something big and bold, now, or within the next 19 months will be time to do it. We already see that he has softened the borders, in definition and in purpose. There are tens of thousands of illegal aliens pouring in across the southern borders of our country, day after day, week after frustrating week.
Operation Choke Point quietly continues to convince banks to refuse the accounts of gun stores, resulting in these stores being shut down. Lois Lerner is still free to walk the streets, maybe call the White House with helpful advice against Tea Party groups. Obama ignores the rights of individual states to have some say in how many immigrants enter their state lines. Everyone knows that a large percentage of these undocumented, unvetted, unskilled and unvaccinated people will end up on public assistance , funded generously by the American taxpayers. Obama has remained determined to close down the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp in Caimanera, Cuba, without regard to any after effects or societal costs. He has shown himself to be a very poor negotiator for the U.S., while being an enthusiastic booster of all thing Cuban or Castro related.
Is it beyond the pale to imagine it (before he does)? Is it possible that we could awake one morning, turn on Free Republic or Drudge, only to discover that overnight, by Presidential Decree, Obama has made Cuba into a state or territory of the United States? This done in a way that ignores Congress completely, something already not out of the ordinary for him. Obama could say he wanted to welcome Cuba into the 21st Century vs leaving them to lurk in the Cold War Darkness of the past. He though businesses would 'welcome the opportunity' to spread the influence of Amercian business into this tropical country. The Castro Brothers may approve of this if it meant having the Americans shower them with billions of guilty-privledge Dollars to build infrastructure and update their financial market. If Cuba became a state or territory of the United States, that would make it very easy for Obama to empty that prison and transfer all remaining inmates to other facilities across the continent. Talk Radio and Fox would explode with fury (maybe), but with Congress so ready to roll over and play dead, nothing but bloviating will actually be done. A week or two after this 'constitutional crime', you will find Boehner and McCain trying to justify it for the time being.
More likely is Cuba declares war on the US and Obama imediately surrenders.
>> we occupied Cuba for ten years after the Spanish American War. We left peacefully, however <<
Basically correct, except that two separate occupations were involved.
But anyway, there was never any strong public sentiment during those years to make Cuba a state.
On the other hand, Pres. Teddy Roosevelt did seriously consider seizing the Dominican Republic and turning it into a state, which could then become a sort of “homeland” for black Americans. But the idea never really got off the ground.
wrong!
Cuba, if Obama issues another of his infamous Executive Orders, may become our 58th state. Not our 51st.
Just ask Obama if you can’t count yourself..
Reagan at one pointed urged statehood for Puerto Rico.
An American territory and a tax haven. http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2015/04/14/the-worst-tax-breaks/stop-letting-the-rich-move-to-puerto-rico-as-a-tax-haven
Obama may have similar plans for Cuba. Somebody’s going to make billions on nice hotels and condos there very soon. But statehood? No.
The Upper Peninsula of Michigan claims to be the 51st State. Puerto Rico could be deemed the 51st State Cuba yeah right the 51st state. There are parts of California that want to break off too.
A small price to play for their liberty...
The Platt Amendments conditions prohibited the Cuban Government from entering into any international treaty that would compromise Cuban independence or allow foreign powers to use the island for military purposes. The United States also reserved the right to intervene in Cuban affairs in order to defend Cuban independence and to maintain a government adequate for the protection of life, property, and individual liberty. Other conditions of the Amendment demanded that the Cuban Government implement plans to improve sanitary conditions on the island, relinquish claims on the Isle of Pines (now known as the Isla de la Juventud), and agree to sell or lease territory for coaling and naval stations to the United States. (This clause ultimately led to the perpetual lease by the United States of Guantánamo Bay.) Finally, the amendment required the Cuban Government to conclude a treaty with the United States that would make the Platt amendment legally binding, and the United States pressured the Cubans to incorporate the terms of the Platt Amendment in the Cuban constitution.
A fair deal for all concerned. And a good deal for Cuba.
The Philippines would elect 25% of the House of Representatives.
The overwhelming majority of the Cubans would be dancing in the streets to be American citizens.
No - it will be part of the North American Caliphate under caliph Obola.
and I’d accept the majority of Cubans to become Americans too, just let’s ship back out the multitudes Obama’s bringing in from his IslamoNazi Krapistans.
The Islamics are the ONLY significant group of “immigrants” (legal or illegal) that are brought up learning to hate America, Christians, and Jews... and they are taught that they should take over such ‘infidel’ lands and either subjugate or kill the infidels (Just as they’ve done to the unfortunate populations in a couple dozen countries already)
The Islamics are DIFFERENT than immigrants from Christian countries, even immigrants from non-Christian countries are not usually taught to hate us an want to take us over or kill us.
We need to send the dangerous ones back to their Krapistans ASAP! Then we can discuss having more Cuban immigrants...
fhc
bump
I’d say he’s going to make Mexico a state.
Depends on how you apportion things and how much of the Philippines would become US. I suspect that the Muslims sections would rather join Indonesia than us, don’t you?
Don’t be that moron.
Only six more to go.
Are you really serious? Forget Obama. What conceivable motivation would Cuba have to become a U.S. possession?
The population of the Philippines, minus Mindinao, is around 80 million. At 700 000 per district, that’s 114 new Members of Congress, and presuming the House stays at 435, about 25-30% of the House would be Catholic, Spanish-speaking Filipinos.
That pretty well sums it up.
Either we’d have to expand the number of Representatives or put them on “probation” for awhile to see how it shakes out.
I really think there are many positive reasons to at least look at it.
