My first-ever vanity post... After some amount of web-surfing, it sounds like the IRS is claiming that processing tax returns and issuing refunds may be expected to take longer than normal. They blame this variously on a long-ago shutdown , Obamacare, and lack of funding.
So I'm soliciting actual FReeper experiences with 2014 tax refunds and how long it took to get them.
If you filed and received your refund, I'd be interested to know roughly when you filed and how long it took.
If you filed and HAVEN'T yet received a refund, same thing.
Full disclosure: I e-filed last weekend and am just wondering how long to expect to wait.
Mine took less than 2 weeks.
About two weeks.
mine was less than 2 weeks as well e filed and got them back fast
bwaaaaa. I haven’t had a refund in 10 years at least. Last year, I wrote a check for 6 grand and this year (I am not done yet) so far my check will be 2 grand. I already paid 12 grand in income tax deduction on my pay stubs. Complaining about tax refund taking too long. I have heard everything.
Filed March 10. Still waiting. Tax preparer told me 3 weeks. Been a month.
You guys are part of the 47 percent not paying taxes? Why are you on FR? We don’t want people who don’t pay taxes on here.
I don’t do tax refunds, but it did take them longer to CASH my check this year.
Helped someone with taxes in early March. They got their return in about two weeks.
Turbo Taxed ‘em late January. Got my yearly welfare check direct deposited less than two weeks later.
We filed in mid-March and the refund came in less than 2 weeks.
Don’t they penalize you if you write a big check for taxes owed?
That doesn’t make a lick of sense. Just because a person gets a refund doesn’t mean they didn’t pay any taxes.
No.
IIRC the IRS were going to hire 15,000 attorneys and accountants for handling Obamacare.
It certainly hasn’t speeded things up.
I e-filed and got in back in 10 days. Fastest ever.
I filed two weeks ago and got both state and federal returns this past week. It took less than two weeks. And we had a more than simple return. Side business, schedule C, 1099s, etc.
No refund for me, I don’t like giving the government an interest-free loan.
I’ve never been penalized. Sometimes contracts come late in the year and you can’t estimate withholdings on something you don’t have.
