Republican senator Rand Paul walked out of a live interview with the Guardian on Friday, in the third testy exchange he has had with a journalist since launching his campaign for president three days ago.
Paul, who said during his campaign launch on Tuesday he would like to see any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed, responded awkwardly when asked which specific piece of legislation he would repeal.
In a live broadcast via the smartphone app Periscope, Paul said he had a host of bills that would amend or repeal part of the statute.
Midway through his answer, he added: Let me answer the question, you complain I dont answer the question I am giving you the specifics.
Paul spoke about the various pieces of bipartisan legislation he has brought to reform the criminal justice system, but did not point to a specific criminal law that he would repeal.
In his final question, he was asked about research showing that white Republicans do not agree with his view that the criminal law is applied in an unequal fashion.
I think your premise is incorrect, he said. Actually I think I can take that message into a white evangelical church anywhere in Iowa and give exactly the same speech and be received well.
When the reporter attempted a follow-up remark quoting a Washington Post-ABC poll about Republican views on criminal justice, Paul walked off camera.

He doesn’t have an answer, which is why I wouldn’t vote for him. Fixed outcome by race is not only unworkable with respect to legislation, it’s impossible.
I’m a conservative. I don’t view it red meat.
He looks petty and unprepared. A whiner.
Ahh,, The Guardian?
Just who’s political agenda are the guarding?
I don’t remember the MSM asking Senator Barry these types of questions....demanding specifics.
They were too busy fetching him snacks and polishing his limo.
Watch the video. It’s the end of the interview, the reporter says “One more question”, Rand answers, then the reporter asks another. Then Rand walks.
“He is a fruit cake like his father.”
He’s worse than his father.
If he can’t handle a belligerent media he has no business running for president as a Republican. He needs to stop wasting everyone’s time.
I sincerely believe we DO NOT need another psychologically disturbed “leader” for quite a while.
I get the feeling that RP threw the line about repealing laws out there because he thought it would increase his appeal to “people of color”, without thinking through the implications or having a clear ideas of the specific laws he would repeal. When pressed on that point, he is unable to provide specifics, and he gets flustered and walks off. Not a good start to his campaign... But that is what happens when you try to pander without a well planned strategy.
Did he really walk off?
That video isn’t clear on what happened, he may have been called off, and why were the lights turned off on the reporter, was everything just closing up there?
The gap is widening between Cruz and Paul. Cruz had a CNBC reporter basically tell him that everything Cruz said was a lie and Cruz spanked him with a firm slap.
Paul gets a few tough questions and snaps.
President Reagan: " Yes, because for many years I was a Democrat."
no red meat for me. He is showing himself up and not ready for prime time.
Maybe this is red meat too in what he said for his pandering to the black voters.
I see an America where criminal justice is applied equally and any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed.
Why did he bother to go on “The guardian”?
That right there makes little sense
He has believed his own hype and now can’t handle the questions on his past.
You seriously want to compare the media in the 80s to today? These guys practically elected Obama singlehandedly.
I think your premise is incorrect.” Cruz needs to get used to saying that a few times. If and when he gets front runner status, they will try to crucify him.
i seem to recall a rather testy exchange between dan rather and george HW. prior to that he was percieved as a bit of a frat boy and wimp. he gained a lot of cred following that episode, and i beleive it was a factor in GHWB’s election. is this more of same?
I’m sure he wishes he could do like Barack and get the questions like, “What’s on your iPod right now?” or “What’s your go to junk food?”.
