George Fischbeck, a science teacher turned weatherman who joined KABC-TV in 1972 and spent nearly two decades exuberantly delivering the local forecast, has died. He was 92.
Fischbeck, who was known as "Dr. George," died of natural causes early Wednesday morning at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Woodland Hills, his daughter, Nancy Fischbeck, said.
A trained meteorologist, George Fischbeck was so enthusiastic about his subject that he sometimes forgot to talk about the next day's weather.

I met Dr. George YEARS ago. A truly nice man.. ALWAYS smiling and jovial. I’m surprised to hear he was still around.

He’d ho off on a tangent and the anchors would have to remind him to do the weather.

Watched him as well for many years in SoCal. Have to admit I also assumed he had passed away years ago.

He studied archaeology and geology at the University of New Mexico, earned a BS and MS in education and became a science teacher for APS. Fischbeck became a weatherman at KOB in 1970 and served as weekday forecaster until 1972 when he moved to Los Angeles to work at KABC.

That’s who I thought of first - is he still around? We left CA 9 years ago...but names are still familiar...

Sorry to hear this. Dr Fischbeck was on the air with an after school science program in Albuquerque in the 60’s when i lived there. Very cool guy. He used to give talks to our Boy Scout Troop as well.
