Kerry looks like he’s a doofus because he IS a doofus.

Kerry looks like a doofus in a business suit.

So don’t y’all go impugning what cyclists have to wear. Most of it looks silly because biking and stylish clothing conflict. I look positively whacked out in whatever I have that is on hand and fits the weather.

Kerry just looks like the idiot he is everywhere, all the time.

You don’t dress like that if you’re a casual cyclist,

Spandex pants and a goonball hat.

So yeah, a helmet is actually a wise thing.

Indeed. Ran over a small paper bag on a downhill canyon road at around 50mph. Turned out the bag had a broken bottle in it (I suspect) so instant front tire blowout.

Actually, for all his imbecility, Kerry does have terrific taste in bicycles. They’re all built by master custom framesmith Ben Serotta.

My suspicion would be that his taste is guided by his pocketbook. I.e., what's the most expensive...???

I don’t think Ben is actually building them anymore. Now the one’s I had in the 70’s that was another story.

He probably did more research on which bike frame and components to buy than he has on the terrorists that he’s supposed to be negotiating with.

There's more expensive ones than Serotta, but it is a first rate product.

But for pure artistry, Columbine Cycles produces amazing frames.

"Have to wear"?

If you're in competition, maybe, but otherwise, why do cyclists "have to wear" strange costumes?

Weather dictates everything in Seattle. Rain? Wind? Sun? Heat? Cold?

Man. I have so much crap in my biking drawer just to handle the weather.

And I buy it all used at Goodwill and the like. I just don’t care what I look like.

I do have a good rain coat, though. It sucks when your feet and pants are wet. But you just want to go home now if your body also gets soaked.

Sounds like you are not the “most people” that I was referring to. I just do my sissy girl, old lady cruising, in my semi-rural neighborhood.

You, OTOH, sound like a serious athlete, so a helmet is a wise choice for you.

Did not study the photo long, as I am a woman, but those legs and the posterior sure did remind me of a male physique.

My point. Most people are not mountain biking or racing.

Ride a bike on the road with traffic and you’re taking your life in your hands. Hit the wrong road hazard with a street tire, and you’re going down. Zig when a car’s driver thinks you’re going to zag, and you could be dead. I’ll grant you I never wore a helmet in those days, but I’ll wear one when I get the mountain bike together. And clay is a lot softer than concrete or steel.
