McDonald's workers in 19 cities filed complaints over burns from grease, a lack of protective equipment and other workplace hazards, according to labor organizers.
This is the latest move in a campaign to win pay of $15 an hour and unionization for fast-food workers by publicly pressuring McDonald's. The push began more than two years ago and is being spearheaded by the Service Employees International Union.

Time to use the fry robots and reduce the labor costs.
Yup, the fools are gonna prioce themselves right out of the job market.....
Pretty soon the only McDonalds job will be refilling the Store sized McDonalds Vending machines...
Thank you! I learned that at a lot of jobs that I had. Laying sod and technical writing were two particularly terrible jobs.
None of ‘em as bad as the sh** brown with rainbow piping duds that Burger King made their employees wear in the 70’s.
I have read somewhere that some of the equipment used to cook food can get hot. Elsewhere I read that it is a good idea not to touch hot things or to let hot things touch you. These can be VERY difficult concepts to learn...
I followed a link about the worst kitchen accidents, and the one I recall is a guy standing on some surface, cleaning above it, and side-steps one step too far into the still hot fryer.
This should finish them off for good.
[ McDonalds will become the worlds #1 customer for specialized robotics. ]
Pretty soon if computing trends continue there will bnot longer be “specialized” robots, but multi-purpose robots that can do multiple jobs and walk on two legs and basically just be plugged into regular jobs to replace people and only need to be “trained” once at corporate HQ with the ability to adapt and learn new jobs roles.
So instead of having to re-fit a resuraunt for single purpose burger assembling robots, you simply roll in the new robots and they take right over using the tool designed for humans.
Things like that don’t happen at Burger King and Wendy’s?
Exactly. At 16 I was working in a bowling alley repairing pin setters. Talk about almost getting killed a few times. LOL
Then there was a thing called “fire”.........
Last I saw 1/3 of Americans had their first job in fast food, so this isn’t really news. Well I guess to the liberal elite, most of the rest of us already have the scars from life cooking bad food fast, it’s generally high on the list of reasons to get out.
Burns in a kitchen!? I’m shocked, just shoked I tell you, to hear that these idiots didn’t know that a kitchen, especially a commercial one, contains things that can burn you.
Forgot to add that since the robots stay in the store all they will need is a ceiling mounted power tether cord which most fast food resturaunts already use inthe kitchen areas.
[ I started out working at a small lumber mill. At that time just about anyone who had worked in a mill for more than a few years was missing at the least a couple of fingers. The fortunate one like myself had close calls where we left with only scars to remind us to be more careful. ]
I grew up on a farm, working at McDonalds was like moving from a dynomite factory to a job as a pillow tester.
I would prefer robots. At least they wouldn’t spit in the food, or need to wipe the boogers off their fingers, or need to wash their hands after visits to the toilet, or worse.
Much like all the complaints about WalMart employees working Thanksgiving Day while completely ignoring that most of the rest of retail works that day too, BK and Wendy’s aren’t the evil empire, nobody cares about their employees.
There is a reason McD had to move to the cash register with pictures.
McD needs to move to robots ASAP.
I spent 3 years working for McD’s in my youth, and like in any restaurant you can get burned... I also have no doubt that you will find incidents in individual restaurants where safety equipment did not exist, or people were not properly trained to do jobs.....
However the idea they are systemic issues of the McD’s corporation is not likely.
I am sure McD’s policies and procedures cover all the situations where individual violations were found, and local franchisee and management will be found to be at fault.
Won’t stop the SEIU though... Leftists don’t live in reality.
I briefly worked at a fast food joint..loved doing the bobbing for French fries..the memories..the skin grafts..sigh..
I went to McDs last night (food was good for what it was), and noted that they had a robot for the drinks now. When ordered the machine grabs a cup from the dispenser, drops the cup into a conveyor belt of holders, moves the cup to the drink nozzle, fills the cup with ice and drink to the correct amount, and, is ready to serve. The staff had to push a button and that was it.
Goodbye Summer Jobs at McDs.
