For the last year and a half, the music industry has been gripped by a lawsuit over whether Robin Thickes 2013 hit Blurred Lines was merely reminiscent of a song by Marvin Gaye, or had crossed the line into plagiarism.

I just played both videos (The current uncensored “Blurred Lines” and Marvin doing “Gotta Give it Up” on Soul Train.
TOTAL Theft and plagiarism, IMHO.
And I am a songwriter. I struggle with every song I write to make sure that I didn’t somehow hear the melody somewhere.
Imagine.
The SONG was vetted ten thousand times
more than the First Moslem Impostor pRes_ _ent.
Totally wrong, there were no naked girls in the Marvin Gaye song.
I suppose that is an added feature.
I could write somr lyrics but i would have to steal the music. Lol
Lyrics are the easy part...ask Weird Al! LOL!
Right
I once was able to watch a master class in songwriting taught by the great Richard Rodgers.
He would take the lyrics given to him by Oscar Hammerstein and CRAFT the melody by using the lyrics to suggest rhythms, intervals, patterns, etc.
It was astounding and inspiring, and I have never forgotten it!
They just don’t write music like that anymore.
These 2 guys look sleazy.
Are you kidding me? Marvin Gaye’s song had NO melody to speak of. It’s not even close...
It was a similar rhythm, at best...but, Blurred Lines is a FAR BETTER song.. Different words, different melody..
If THIS is an infringement, then... OMG... virtually EVERY song is a copy of some other song.
I simply cannot believe this ruling...
Jimmy Fallon, Robin Thicke & The Roots Sing "Blurred Lines" (w/ Classroom Instruments)
Fallon was totally ripping off my grove on the wood block from way back when.
yep..
And Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” vs Madonna’s “Express Yourself”.
Now, THOSE are copies.. this is not.
Hell, Marvin Gaye’s “song” isn’t even really a song. It’s just a very long, boring, extended version of a rhythm. It’s horrible.. and, I LIKE Marvin.
“Everybody pay up! Hey hey hey”

Dominique and Sexual Healing. Katy Perry does them identical.
Is this Thicke guy the same one who used to host America’s Funniest Home videos?
