"Everyone thinks the Sound of Music was exactly the way things happened"
Actually Johannes, nobody does.
Yes. I’m not sure where people like him get the idea that we are so stupid.
Only the nimble-minded.
I never thought people went around singing happily on mountain tops. I’ve had a cabin the mountains (Sierras) and now like in the Appalachians. I have never seen anybody singing, especially an entire family.
Maybe in the Rockies or Cascades....or maybe it’s just an Alpine thing.
You mean that Maria wasn’t able to use her cornette to fly?
Please, no reality show.

Saw this movie in the theater as a kid. It remains one of my all-time favorite movies.
I first saw Sound of Music in a Chicago downtown theater in 1965 (?) and that turned me on to musicals.
Actually, some people DO think what they see in movies is reality. After Victor/Victoria came out years ago, a friend remarked to me that she didn’t realize Robert Preston was gay. All I could do was stare at her.
And it’s also the problem with historical dramas, that too many people think the story is true & don’t realize the license taken by Hollyweird. Very annoying.
And the spaceships in Star Wars could really go into space, too!
Irresponsible singing nun thwarts wedding, marries wealthy man herself, aids and abets family of fugitives.
Their real life was actually a lot harder. They were seriously devout and Catholic, as I know from contacts, and were not just doing it for show.
Several of the children, after they grew to adulthood and married, went off to be missionaries but there were a couple of of others who had ended up living in New York or nearby. I met one of them once - it may have been Johannes - but I met him in Canada.
Movies always go for the drama and the stereotype, simply because it’s recognizable to audiences that may not know a lot about the topic. So this isn’t a bad thing, but it’s also not history.
Still a great story. and great music. I love most of the songs.
I think musicals tend to take license with the truth. It is possible that one person could spontaneously could make up a song, and while still plausible a second could add to the song but still further unlikely. But almost always the crowd starts sing the chorus at some point. All of the in tune and at the same time. They didn’t have smart phones back then to call a flash mob.
This is one of my wife’s favorite movies. It is a very lovely movie and I have enjoyed watching it many times over the years. I think Julie Andrews is lovely and if anyone replies to me that she’s a left wing socialist or degenerate in some sort of way I’ll be really mad!!! I don’t want to know!!! :-)
