UPDATE: Both Joni and Chachi have been adopted to a loving home in Florida. They will get to spend the rest of their days together as friends!
An unlikely pair of dogs that were found roaming around on the streets of Savannah have formed an unbreakable bond, and now animal control officers are hoping to place both pups in a home together so that they can remain lifelong friends.
The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department found a white Pit Bull wandering around neighborhoods in the Georgia city carrying a small, longhaired male Chihuahua in her mouth. The Chihuahua had a terrible eye infection and the Pit Bull was seen licking the smaller dogs eye and trying to keep it clean.

Reach for your hankies when you read about the star-crossed best pals Chachi and Joni.
Pit bulls have gotten a bad rap and its undeserved.
Maybe. Or he’s playing the long game ...
Oh man that’s funny.
“Pit bulls have gotten a bad rap and its undeserved”
You mean that all those stories we read about pit bulls are fake? Who’d a thunk it ...
Pit Bulls are people too...
The road to true love never does run smooth.
Im sorry your pet died.
What year was that?
You can see a lot in the eyes of a pitbull . This one looks nice. Tongue hanging out, one ear up one ear down LOL.
Oh please. That chihuahua is nothing but a fur-wrapped sack lunch should the Pit come up on hard times.
That little dog was seriously injured but was cared for any way.
You can’t explain it by instinct because this was a male dog caring for a little defenseless female dog with a bad eye.
The vets had to remove it because the infection was too far to save the eye.
But the love is still there and its not something unique to humans.
Very touching story, however, the Pit Bull is the female (Joni), and the Chihuahua is the male (Chachi).
Best buddies ping....
This can be a rather unpopular opinion, but I always thought simply blaming the pitbulls is essentially refusing to hold accountable the owners who refused to raise them properly and understand the specific needs of this breed, and in the worst cases actively trying to make them hyper aggressive. A disturbing number of people get certain pets only for an exotic factor or because they liked how they were portrayed in a movie (see Dalmatians from the movie 101 Dalmatians or St Bernards from the Beehtoven movies) or some other trivial reason. And then the animals get too much of the blame when the owners did not do their jobs.
I agree. This pit bull is a cunning beast. Someday he will be seen alone about 1 and 1/2 pounds heavier.
Mayhap that pitbull wasn’t raised to be vicious so it bonded with another dog.
We do the same thing with cows
I think you’re right. Every time I read about a pit bull killing or maiming someone, I always think, “There they go again, publicly trashing the wrong breed. It was probably a bull dog.”
LOL!
