That made me miss my diving days. Those grouper are the size of Volkswagens. Wonderful, different world down there.
There must be a rock concert nearby.
Years ago, before we became culturally sensitive, these Goliath Groupers were known as Jewfish. While working on a barge in the Gulf of Mexico, a supervisor who was an avid fisherman caught one. It was so big that he had to put a diver in the water to hook it up to a crane in order to get it on deck. We estimated that it weighed around 500#.
Yum yum...at $15.00/lb, that’s some prime rib eating...one of the best fish blackened there is...it seems the uglier the sea creature, the most tasty they are...lobster for example...
Like other reef predators, I assume the meat of mature Goliath Grouper is very toxic to humans.
Are the David Groupers killing them?
