Amazing science fiction movie

I am watching an amazing sci-fi flick, I know it's amazing because this is like the third time I watched it!

It's called "The Thirteenth Floor".

For the uninitiated, it's about alternate reality type things, as always there's a twist. Maybe more than one!

Anyways, any comments are welcome!

They apparently got the name from Love Field’s “people mover sidewalks”.

I remember seeing this film in a theater with a friend. About halfway through I figured out what was going on and told him and he was amazed.

If you like this film you might also like "Dark City" by Alex Proyas who also directed "The Crow."

Ah, I thought you might just be a fan of bands named after architectural elements :)

The Spiral Staircase was the group that recorded this one:

And then there is the German movie, "World on a Wire," made in the 1970s, dealing with the same theme, way, way ahead of its time.

Great Movie. One of the mind blowing things about quantum mechanics is the discovery that we live in what amounts to a digital universe. An electronic simulation if you will. We live in the matrix. What the 13th floor brings to the concept that information, (ie... our existence,) is something more than physical.

To me the best was “Forbidden Planet” ... when that “thing” hit the fence I peed my pants ... of course I was only six at the time ... at home fortunately. Had nightmares for weeks after that ....

Yep. I know two of them. They live here in Kerrville. John Ike Walton (drums) and Ronnie Leatherman (bass). I bought my hi-hat stand from John Ike last year. It had been in his attic since the 70’s. I’ve known John and Ronnie for about 18 years. Nice people.

The first time I watched this movie I had a few drinks first. Wife was asleep and I had head phones on for the sound.

The last line of the movie is a whisper in one ear like “Doug there are many more worlds than these.”

And...My name is Doug. It flipped me out a little bit in my cocktail haze.

Spiral Staircase was a good rock group (”I Love You More Today Than Yesterday”. It sounds great in French). So were the Brooklyn Bridge (think it featured Johnny Maestro of the Crests). “The Worst That Could Happen to Me”.

Didn’t Thirteenth Floor feature Rufus Sewell and a bar?

They've been nice enough when I met them. John is an Obamacare supporter.

I've heard that Tommy Hall is supposed to be “far right” these days (whatever that means). From his interview (in the Austin Chronicle article about the upcoming reunion) he's glad to see pot legalized (although he envisions it leading to higher thinking, not merely recreational highs).

The early adopters of LSD use did indeed try to unlock some mysteries but quite a few people simply used it as a new kind of kick. And some never made it back mentally.

I can't say that the Elevators drug use is what sent Roky or Tommy over the edge (and I think John is on record saying that he didn't trip but a few times, if I recall he found that it interfered too much). Roky was later exposed to electrical and chemical shock treatments (and the institutional environment of Rusk) probably did more damage than the drug use did.

I wish all of them well and hopefully they can get into the rock and roll hall of fame some day as the pioneering act they were (and the inspirational act they continue to be).

The Texas bands had a profound effect on the San Francisco bands.

The Id monster in Forbidden Planet was Disney animation.

Billy Gibbons’ old psychedelic band (The Moving Sidewalks) did a show at this festival a few years back.
