I have a theory.
It was directed by the brother turned sister. In all seriousness, imagine you are an actor, photographer, etc. trying to work with this person. It’s like working with a person with a quarter sized mole right between their eyes. It’s really hard to focus on the task at hand.
I’m actually being serious.
There are far too many futurist/space movies out there. Its a completely worn-out category.
Aren’t they brothers?
I believe movie budgets have a huge percentage of bogus expenses like illegal drugs expensed as catering. A crony capitalist small service company can turn insiders into multimillionaires with just a few bad movies.
My sister saw it this past weekend. She said a lot of the CG stuff was amazing, but the story, dialogue and acting were the worst.
This doesn’t surprise me. The two Matrix sequels these guys did were also awful. One trick ponies.
No wonder I hated Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer.
The only truly successful movie they’ve had is one using an allegedly stolen story. and when they tried to write their own sequels, only the brand recognition saved them.
Their special effects can be very impressive (though speed racer’s were hard to actually follow, kind of like the first Transformers movie), but we’re over that sort of thing as the reason to see a movie.
That said, I’ll pay a buck at Redbox to see it.
I knew this film would be a mess just by watching the trailer. It had the opposite effect from what was intended, it made me not want to pay to see this.
They have said so themselves. However, before the bomb unfolded, they announced they had been paid by Netflix to create a big budget miniseries.
No zombies or vampires or drug dealers.
Mila Kunis as Galactic Princess or something? Pass.
The Show looked too melodramatic in every aspect.
The fact the marketing budget was 50% of the production budget tells me they sold the film on marketing not quality of production. I am always skeptical of films with huge marketing budget. A good film should sell itself.
Is it the kind of movie you watch when you’re Drunk or were they Drunk when they made it ?
They write weird stories that have way too much mythology and don’t actually make sense. That’s what everybody failed to notice when the Matrix distracted them with bullet cam. They make really good looking movies though, just don’t put them in charge of the story. Which is why I have high hope for Sense 8, JMS will hopefully be in charge of the story, they’ll just make it look good.
I saw this last night and enjoyed it. I would rather have flying boots than wings though.
