Russia Would See U.S. Moves to Arm Ukraine as Declaration of War
Moscow Times ^ | 02/09/2015 | By Matthew Bodner

Posted on 02/10/2015 7:22:59 PM PST by Rusty0604

U.S. provision of military aid to Ukraine would be seen by Moscow as a declaration of war and spark a global escalation of Ukraine's separatist conflict, Russian defense analysts said.

With Russia-backed rebels in eastern Ukraine seizing new territory from the Ukrainian army, voices in Washington are demanding that Kiev be given defensive weapons and hardware — including lethal equipment — to hold the line.

But if such aid were sent, "Russia would reasonably consider the U.S. to be a direct participant in the conflict," said Evgeny Buzhinsky, a military expert at the Moscow-based PIR Center.

Speaking to The Moscow Times on a condition of anonymity, a member of the Russian Defense Ministry's public advisory board warned that Moscow would not only up the ante in eastern Ukraine, "but also respond asymmetrically against Washington or its allies on other fronts."

"It would become tit-for-tat," said Maxim Shepovalenko, an analyst at the Moscow-based Center for the Analysis of Strategy and Technology (CAST).

"Moscow will not just sit by calmly and see what happens, it will counteract," he said.

The Russian counterstrike could take the conflict far beyond Ukraine, according to the source on the Defense Ministry's public advisory board.

Pointing to one possible avenue of asymmetrical retaliation, the source said Moscow could give in to long-standing Chinese requests for sensitive defense technologies that would aid in its development of high-tech weapons capable of doing serious damage to U.S. naval forces in the Asia-Pacific.

Moscow has so far declined China's requests on "politically correct pretenses," the source said.

"That's just one example. We can also encourage Iran, or even back Iran in a fight — a military operation — with Saudi Arabia, so then the prices for oil will skyrocket," the source said, explaining that these were just two possible responses.

Some people don’t care if Russia invades other countries to build another Soviet Union. They’re much like a child who rubs boogers on other children without caring about future consequences.

Before jumping on me for loving Putin or something like that, I just posted this because I think it's good to see what the other side is saying or doing.

Afraid of getting flamed? Why? I think arming Ukraine is terrible idea. The place had nearly 24 years to turn itself into a country, but it simply was stripped bare by its so-called rulers. Not sure there is much there to save. I'm more worried about our own government led by our own leftists and statists, without having to worry about Putin.

I’m not really “afraid” of getting flamed. I just wish some people would just take a little longer to look at all the reports on situations before being so opinionated.

From what I’ve gathered, this started with
European trade and politics, and then this administration’s desired outcome ( http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/fuck-the-eu-says-americas-top-europe-diplomat/) and the rebellion,...looking at how Egypt, Libya and Yemen turned out...

For the record, I am not a Putin lover.

“Why??
So more of it can be turned over to the rebels, either by capture, troops changing sides, or outright sale by Ukranian officers???”

You being Putin’s Internet troll, it is understandable why you would want to sow fear, uncertainty, and doubt as a means of suppressing the ability of the Ukrainians to defend themselves against your Russian friends’ latest murderous onslaught. Be that is it may, you can go back to your masters in Russia and remind them what happens when you finally motivate the American people to throw caution to the wind in an effort to defend our own freedom and the freedom of our allies. Russia having been the beneficiary of just such aid should think twice before taking actions which unify the American people. Germany and Japan suffered for the consequences.

UKRAINE DEFENSE: Already Summon received by over 60% of Ukrainians that are subject to mobilization
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3250079/posts

If the last of the Ukrainians fit for duty are exterminated by the Russians, maybe many of us will be sure to stay out of the way concerning three western European countries continuing to desire empire. Maybe Russia would like some ports around the northern Mediterranean and a large channel to get back and forth from those places.

Shown enough backstabbing between European countries and more defamations against the U.S.A., we could probably stand fast longer than we did during World War 2. We should only help nations that are willing to help others.

Many bipartisan political/regulator folks with government incomes would rather see the following develop into a nuclear exchange than to see any decreases in their big government spending (political fun money). Besides, if a nuclear exchange occurs, they see themselves playing emergency-rescue and having another excuse to rob their neighbors of more properties.

“You clowns have really gone the full Orwell with your NewSpeak”

You can drop the act. We know how your routine works. Your routine is little different than it was in 1916 when the Communist agitators infiltrated the Czar’s army and spread tales of disinformation to incite distrust and hatred of the Bolshevists’ chosen enemies. You go about bemoaning the trials and tribulations of those weak minded individuals too greedy and self-centered to acknowledge how the propagandist plays on their emotions and selfishness to steal away their freedoms a little here and a little there. The problem with your scheme is that you can fool some of the people most of the time, but you cannot fool some of the people at all. So, your little scheme to pretend anyone who calls you out for attempting to sow fear, uncertainty, and doubt about defending themselves and their freedoms is somehow delusional, crazy, or mentally unbalanced is just further cause to dismiss you as a pro-Russian propagandist determined to inflict grave injuries upon us and our allies.
