Celebrating the fifth anniversary of Lets Move! First Lady Michelle Obama explains to Cooking Light magazine that she had to get empowered in her own household to eliminate processed food.
Part of that experience was her personal fight against boxed macaroni and cheese, which, she admits, her kids loved.
At the time, her chef friend Sam Kass explained that boxed macaroni and cheese wasnt real food and so the family shouldnt eat it.
My kids loved the macaroni and cheese in a box, she explained. And he said, if its not real food then were not going to do it.

Bullcrap. I defy anyone to prove that homemade mac and cheese is nutritious in any way that the boxed isn’t. Noodles and cheese. Dehydration of the cheese does not affect nutrition.
Have you ever tried ketchup on boxed macaroni and cheese? My best friend’s daddy taught me that in 3rd grade. Loved it ever since!!!!
It is our home’s national dish.
I don’t give a damn what Michelle feeds her kids. But who appointed her our children’s Food Czar?
The real stuff can be just as fattening and bad for you. Especially if it’s all you eat, and you make up a huge portion and down it in one shot. With grape soda. Mooch’s hips and thighs, can testify.
Based upon the size of her phat azz...I’d say she slammed down many a box of mac & cheese....
“.. my kids will only eat the box stuff”.
When mine were very little, they would only eat the boxed type. I made the homemade macaroni and cheese.. and it wasn’t to their liking. I remember when my son was five and told his classmates that his Mom made the best kind of macaroni and cheese in the world. His teacher asked him how I made it and he proudly said, “out of a box!”. Kind of made me cringe at the time but they all eat the “real” stuff now and the boxed type on a hectic evening when dinner is late and hurried.
I'm sure he commented on last night's Grammys, though.
How much has Kraft donated to the obamas?
I certainly don’t think anybody dies from this. I’m a foodie and think that cheddar and pasta make a delicious combo and wish that moms would see it as an easy and cheapish meal.
That said, it is none of my business what my fellow Americans eat.
In a pinch it’s okay. For long-term food supplies it’s a good item to have and you can always add tomato sauce and meat to it. Even chili and have chili mac.
I enjoy my own home made mac and cheese better.
I prefer the basic Kraft box to most folk’s “real” macaroni. Only the best cheeses or cheese blends can beat Kraft’s easy box.
Will have to try that sometime :)
there was a frozen brand that was pretty good but I forgot the name long ago
With you on that. I like to make my own mac/cheese but out camping it’s an easy fixing ... I look at boxed stuff as an emergency fix ...
I agree with your disgusting comment! Who in their right mind thought Mac and Cheese should to be bright orange?
When you're a college student cramped in a dorm or a low-income family on a tight budget, you don't have a personal chef that can grate fresh cheese and cook it over elbow macaroni like Michelle can.
Boxed mac and cheese isn't designed to be part of a gourmet dinner. It's designed for busy families, whiny hungry children, teenagers, and people watching their food budget.
Was it Stouffers? That was always good too. I have used it with leftover meatloaf and peas on the side.
I understand that. But boxed mac and cheese is horrible - and I speak as someone who likes boxed potato flakes. It should only be for people who are poor, desperate and unemployed given our Obama economy. For them, I have total sympathy and respect.
so instead of standing up to WorldWide IslamoNazi terrorism, the White House prefers to fight tis war against..... a little box of Macaroni....
