Great read and not too long.
Lewis’ writings guided me to Christianity very early in my life. It all started in grade school where my teacher, Mrs. Graciano, read several Chronicles of Narnia books to the class. I was so enthralled and the stories seemed magical. Because of that, I later sought out his apologetics and was then forever stuck with Lewis. It’s amazing how much he (and others) contributed to bringing people to Christ. I later became Catholic because it just made sense. Although Lewis was not Catholic, he beliefs were consistent with Catholic teaching.
Absolutely. This is the sheer brilliance of deep thinking.
Bobby Jindal too recounts why he chose Catholicism since the rest of Christian beliefs were so bland, shallow, and lacked historical support. Indeed, often Catholics who convert are more informed that those born and baptized Catholics.
Thanks. Must read for all, especially Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Jews.
I’m currently reading A Year with C.S. Lewis as a daily devotional. I’ve never read any of his books, but even short paragraphs reveal a very deep spiritual brilliance. Thought-provoking and inspirational.
“While Lewis himself never entered the Catholic Church, his writings have led a dizzying array of converts across the Tiber”
These days, the converts no longer have to swim the Tiber. They can easily walk across on the backs of millions of Hispanics swimming the other way.
That’s interesting. I didn’t know that about Jindal and I agree with his statement.
Wishful thinking. Lewis has led millions to Protestantism.
You may well end up reading many of his books. His story is quite remarkable.
You’re right! All of those well educated Hispanics have memorized scripture like the national anthem of Mexico.
All they have to do is pray to the “Virgin of Guadalupe” and all will be well! Or better yet—Jesus Malverde!
LOL! I agree!
Not true. Lewis believed in core Catholics beliefs. GK Chesterton too was a late convert. He once said he was like the church bell tower that while it was outside it was one he sounded so that folks would enter the Church. Protestantism does not have a singular belief.
Do you have his quote on saying that attack on Christianity?
... since the rest of Christian beliefs were so bland, shallow, and lacked historical support.
......................................................
Simple belief in Jesus and his word is bland and shallow?
An audience like you explains why the pope must feel he has to make non biblical, nutty statements on a regular basis.
My favorite and a quick read is “The Screwtape Letters”.
Lewis present a series of letters back and forth, between Screwtape and his nephew Wormwood.
Screwtape is the senior disciple of Satan and his nephew is a tempter in training.
In one lesson Screwtape asks Wormwood “What is the most important lie we can convey to Man?”
After several good guesses, the senior Demon tells his nephew, “That we don’t exist”.
“attack on Christianity”
LOL!
Catholicism IS Christianity.
What you’re being so defensive about is Jindal’s opinion about the Non-Denominational brands which assert an individual inspiration of the Holy Spirit, which you would deny the Pope.
His beliefs were consistent with Christian beliefs!
“Protestantism does not have a singular belief.”
Doctrinally? Of course it does.
Individually? Common to every worshipper? No. Neither does the Catholic denomination.
