Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll isn't sleeping well these days. Carroll and his offensive coaching staff made the infamous decision to pass the ball from New England's 1-yard line in the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIX, resulting in Russell Wilson throwing a game-ending interception.

Carrol was attempting to diminish Marshon Lynch for his disrespect of the NFL and the fans on media day. The play was called so as to put Russell Wilson in the position of being the hero and the MVP for bringing the Hawks back to victory. The NFL, as well as Carroll, were looking to "political correctness" instead of where they should have been focused. The real failure is that Wilson couldn't EXECUTE the play.

All BS. I'm not a Pete Carrole fan by any means. I think he is a jerk. But I can't even begin to imagine with 30 seconds left in a game that he had a chance to win only after a miracle catch on the 5 yard line, that any of those thoughts crossed his mind.

He called a play that had worked for them in the past, and a rookie named Butler read it, took a chance on jumping the route and got the Int.

No conspiracy theories or brilliant coaching decisions required. S**t happens in sports.

So was Pete trying to ‘diminish’ Lynch on the very previous play?!!!!! You remember, the one where Lynch plowed his way down to the one yard line on a great rushing attempt for the TD? Did Lynch stop short on purpose?! (Sarc./off.) Good God......

That 1986 clank was a little karma sent Billy Bucks way for running his big mouth, crapping on the 2 time defending World Series Champions and their fans by saying “Only Reggie, Joe Rudi and Sal Bando could even make our Dodgers team” prior to the 1974 A’s/Dodgers World Series. Screw him.

Worst play call in the history of the NFL. Clearly worth losing sleep over. I sure don’t envy the man.

Did I NOT say "here's an interewssting POV?"

Maybe if you got as riled up over Obozo and what he's doing to America things would change as opposed to stay the same.

What wound up making it bad was that it had worked in the past. Often success in football is predicated on doing the “dumb” thing largely nobody ever does it and the other side doesn’t expect it. But this one was on the tapes, and Bill coached against it, and thus it didn’t work.

What I love about that play (the whole play, not just Pete’s call) is that both coaches did “dumb” things that if they didn’t work would be questioned. CW in that situation for the Pats is to call the timeout and nurse the clock for your thrilling comeback. But Bill didn’t because he saw the formation and figured his guys had it. If the Seahawks succeed in that play today the talk of the sports world is how stupid Bill was for not stopping the clock. I don’t think I’ve seen a play where both coaches took the genius/ idiot path at the same time.

Remember though that play got totally blown up by the pass rush and Ben did a lot of scrambling. We have no idea what the actually called play was.

Pure crazy talk. Fun to talk over beers but in reality Lynch has been showing disrespect to the league and media for his whole career and Carroll gives him the ball lots. The play was called to be unexpected, but he’d done it before, so it was on the tapes, so it was expected. That’s really what it boils down to, give Belichick enough tape and he will find your favorite “nobody would ever do this” play and figure out how to stop it.

At the time Buckner encountered the error, the score was tied, 5-5. The previous pitch had plated the tying run on a wild pitch...Red Sox were in full collapse mode at the time of Buckner’s error...

Funny thing about momentum in baseball...a team can be losing, even while winning...

It’s good to see that the Yankee fans are in mid-season form...:)

Nice try. No matter how you attempt to spin your reply, you were schooled for your ‘interewssting’ POV.....own it.

I imagine Pete (and all the players and a lot of fans) will replay this as remembering a car accident. I know that is how I felt waking up on Monday morning! Did that really happen? What could I have done differently? What if...

I was in a minor accident once and it took about two weeks for me to quit thinking like that.

It may have been this interview, but in one of them Carrol said that as soon as the throw was intercepted he had to transition to the next thing. He knew what would be coming and what would need to be done. (Talking with the players, meeting the press, etc.)

It was only at 4:05 on Tuesday morning that he had the time to reflect (and cry) about it. It’s Friday now. I bet he’s already put in two days of work regarding resigning Lynch, figuring out Wilson’s pay, and getting his ducks in a row for the draft.

Podcast on Tuesday morning with Carroll. Pretty inspirational really. Winning is a challenge, losing is a challenge. But it is what you do with that challenge. I’ve spent my whole life preparing for this and I know I’m well suited to handling it.

You must be one of those LIBERAL idiots who has the "rightness" disease.

You always want to claim you're right whatever the circumstance.

Get lost sonny. Another toothless lame spin attempt by you. I’m not the only one who pointed out your stupidity on this thread. So go post another “interewssting” as you say POV. You kids are really something. Good God.
