DENVER - "Tourists are coming for the slopes and the cannabis, and they go together on someone's vacation pretty well," said Tim Cullen, co-owner of Colorado Harvest Company.
But when the vacation is over, some tourists want to take the fun back home. And that's where the problems begin. Because while the pot is totally legal in Colorado, it's still very illegal across most of the country--including here in Texas.
"We understand the eyes of the world are upon us," said Brett Ahroon, manager at Starbuds Dispensary.
Denver dispensaries like Starbuds advise-buyer's beware, use your weed in Colorado, and Starbuds complies with state laws that limit each customer to just a quarter ounce of pot per day.
But there's nothing to stop ambitious shoppers from hitting multiple pot shops and buying as much as they want, and then stashing their stash and heading home.
"So many people call, and say 'hey I got a 4 hour layover, can I get there and back?'," said Ahroon.
Texas travelers like Bill and Sue say it's crazy to take a chance. They smoke all they want in Denver, but it's an open secret here that many others stock up and split.
"You just don't talk about it because it's not legal," said Sue.

Arent you the guy that keeps saying drug usage wont spread and grow?
I don't recall saying that. Is your answer to my question "yes"?
Nope. “Dumb thing’’? Protecting people from their folly results in a world full of fools. Lets out law auto racing and all contact sports while we’re at it.
“Protecting people from their folly results in a world full of fools.”
I’m going to use that, you’ve been warned.
“Arent you the guy that keeps saying drug usage wont spread and grow? Hows that theory working out for ya?”
I’ve got news for you. Plenty of Texans smoked weed way before it was legal in Colorado.
The only difference between this and the weed smokers from the past is where it’s being smuggled from.
Must be the liberal Texans bringong back the pot.
“Must be the liberal Texans bringong back the pot.”
Yeah sure. Whatever you say. Lol.
Your irrelevant fact has no bearing on the point that usage will grow if the product is made available.
If you dispute this, then explain how the usage is not currently zero. If it didn't grow, how did it ever rise to the current level? By what amazing stretch of mental acuity can you argue it won't keep growing beyond the current level?
Texans bringing pot back from Colorado has no bearing on the claim that usage will grow if the product is made available.
Growing up in Colorado, we did the same thing driving to Wyoming to buy fireworks.
PUT DOWN THE ROACH CLIP AND STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD!
I love reading your posts. They don’t much farther your position, but you doubletalk as well as any politician I’ve ever seen.
It’s a fact. A lot of people in Texas smoke dope. A lot of people everywhere smoke dope.
Weed being illegal hasn’t stopped people from smoking dope.
Will more people smoke dope if it’s legal? Probably.
Will more people smoke dope if it remains illegal? Probably.
Will some people go on to abuse meth and wreck their lives? Yes.
Will some people abuse cheeseburgers and pound cake and go on to wreck their lives yes.
Should that be the governments lookout? No.
Now let us endeavor to persevere lol.
My position is hopeless and I am a tiny voice crying in the wilderness. The herd is moving relentlessly towards it's own destruction, and there will be little I can say or do to prevent it. This drug issue is just one more manifestation of the societal rot currently eating the nation. The end result is predictable.
Why do I bother? Well if you lived during the time when the Nazis were slowly gaining strength, wouldn't you want to say you stood in opposition to them rather than just rolled over? You fight for what is right, even though you know you will be eventually overwhelmed anyway.
Should that be the governments lookout? No.
And that is the opinion of someone with the experience and lifespan of a man. History is larger, and this idea has already been tried. A second experiment will work out much like the first.

There’s more than a little bit of a difference between legalized weed and the Nazis taking over.
To quote an Olympic snowboarder, “If you can’t board stoned, you shouldn’t be boarding.”
Yeah, cuz these Texans never heard of weed before they went to Colorado.
Go right ahead. As for my own folly, it’ll be 25 years on the 23rd. of this month that I’m living sober, one day at a time.
We shall see, but I'm not optimistic.
Teen use of marijuana has not increased in the past four years nationwide, even as the country has undergone a transformation in marijuana's legality and availability, according to the results of a survey released Tuesday.
Instead, the annual Monitoring the Future survey found that various measures of teen marijuana use across the country decreased slightly in 2014.
