I just re-joined FR and I would like to post to my local NC state board but I am not able to. How do I get the ability to do that?
wow
The kid will be alright! They are young and don’t have the baggage we do messing up their thought processes.
Just don’t go overboard the other way and nickname him “Flipper”
I thought I was almost finished with a post to you, and I hit something and lost the whole thing. I get so discouraged when that happens.
Yesterday, I was on the tech line with the folks at Total Defense and they uninstalled the program in about 40 minutes. I then went on to add Avast!, AdAware and Ghostery and I’m hoping between them and the MS firewall this computer will last me longer than the old one did, which was only 10 months. GAH!!
I need to access the Slave and find a shortcut for it so I can transfer the stuff I’m doing here.
I got the paperwork done, and will head for DMV with some of it as soon as I have the $35 for the new plates. I believe that is a one-time fee, including something for gas particulates, and that the yearly registration will be less that $20 a year, no smog test required. If the BB SUV is accepted for that type of registration, I should be able to drive without stressing for several years. Until I’ve lost the need for the vehicle, anyway.
In other news, we are looking at 95 degrees today. My A/C turned on for the first time in six weeks, yesterday afternoon, and was running periodically until about 2200. At least the apartment behind me is empty. It’s nice not to have to use air fresheners to eat the odor of cigarette smoke. :o]
Way cool. I can't see temperatures myself. Do they look like colors or something? The thermometer says it's 82 here - which I know by reading a Web page not by actually asking the thermometer myself. But it looks pretty much the same outside as it did when it was 40.
It would be so cool to see temperatures.
An extremely short story on the blog
Nothing But Memories

Green is cool. So is blue. Green grass, blue sea. Red is hot.
Veddy Intelestink!
So, is white ever hot? Or is it cold as ice? And does humidity impact what it looks like?
It sure impacts what it feels like.
Yes.
Oh, YES!! Thank you!
Wha.....?
Galileo invented a way to see temperatures. 'Face has one of his rigs.
It's a tube with floating glass balls of different density. Depending on the temperature, all or none of the balls will be floating. It's very visual.
You can tell at a glance what the temperature is, but it is a little slow to respond.
You could call it that.
I was merrily riding my rearend around the yard in a quasi-linear fashion utilizing the slice and dice function of the 42" deck to decrease the effective height of the advanced grass substitute when without warning the engine rpm's went to maximum-self-destruct mode. The throttle had no effect which indicated a nonsalubrious manifestation. I shut it off and shoved it into the barn-remains and took off the cowling thinking that a linkage had broken, but examination indicated that linkages were intact and all the right things moved in the proper directions when the throttle was operated. After disconnecting linkages it was discovered that manually moving the throttle rod on the carburetor indicated some not-quite-right feel and the strange phenomena of the entire throttle rod lifting out of the carburetor. Or more specifically, about 1/2 to 2/3 of the throttle rod. Since a throttle plate is normally attached internally to the throttle rod, the fact that the rod could be moved 'up' at all was indicative of a bigger issue.
After muttering something akin to 'this is not a good thing' (slightly paraphrased) I removed the carburetor and manifold which revealed - no throttle plate in sight. Also not in evidence were the two brass screws that attached the plate to the rod. The lower third/half of the brass throttle rod was also not visible.
Applying the visual emanations of a battery-operated light source to peer into the intake port in the head revealed the detached throttle plate wedged in the port by the valve stem. After removing the wedged throttle plate with the aid of needle nose pliers, a digital probing into the port failed to locate the remaining vanished parts. Best case scenario is that they managed to blow into and them out of the engine as it ran at its uncontrollable rpms. Worst case - they are embedded in the piston...
Right now it is a minor inconvenience. Throttle rod assembly kit and necessary gaskets are ordered with projected delivery Friday. If after installing the fix-up-the-carburetor parts I find that the brass parts the motor ingested became lodged in the innards and create a catastrophic event it will transmogrify into a major PITA.
Which will create the authoring of a further epistle toward the weekend.. ;-)
Meanwhile, the advanced grass substitute is being copiously watered by the remnants of the storm that blew past Geron two days ago...
T-c has one, as well — a birthday present from Yours Truly.
I love my Galileo. It is ALWAYS accurate. My barometer, on the other hand, has no gauges...just a spout that needs attention, occasionally.
Oh, dang...
Who needs a barometer, when you have knees?
You sure can put words together ... reminds me of BlackElk.
Interesting premise, neat details.
I thought that story would end with time travel or warp speed or aliens...
