Dan Thompson is on his way out the door as CEO of fast food giant McDonalds. This is not terribly surprising, since the Golden Arches have turned in some poor numbers compared to their competitors for a while now. There are a few reasons for this, some of which came as a surprise to me, as outlined by my friend Stephen Green (a.k.a. Vodkapundit). One big factor which doesnt seem to make a lot of news is that the primary component of burgers is beef, and the cost has been on the rise.

Eh, you figured it out.
“The headline is wrong. It should be: Why is McDonalds committing suicide?”
Good point...they have to keep making and then throwing away salads just to keep Michelle and her animals off their backs.
There is ANOTHER WAY...which is to DENOUNCE that bunch and hold out their company as supporting AMERICAN VALUES.
...of course they’d never do that.
Where I live McDonalds has been transformed into Los Donaldos, with its laughable attempt to give its “food” a Southwestern flavor that’s more palatable for illegal aliens than for original lower-middle class customers.
I never met a cold French fry that I liked.
I find Burger Kings and Dairy Queen fries to be not so bad when cold. McDonald fries taste like mush when gone cold.
I've been advocating a return to a much simpler McDonald's menu for a number of years. Here is what I want them to do:
1. Simplify the breakfast menu to:
Egg McMuffin
Sausage McMuffin (with or without egg)
Sausage Biscuit
Hotcakes with Sausage
Hotcakes with Sausage and Egg (the Big Breakfast)
2. Simplify the lunch/dinner menu to:
Hamburger (one or two hamburger patties)
Cheeseburger (one or two hamburger patties)
Quarter Pounder (with or without cheese)
A specialty Quarter Pounder with your choice of toppings in a limited range
Big Mac
McChicken
Filet-O-Fish
3. A beverage menu limited to:
Coffee but with the good preparation methods like Tim Hortons coffee
Orange drink
Cola-flavored soda beverage (regular and diet)
Lemon/lime-flavored soda beverage (regular and diet)
Mike shake in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors, plus mint for St. Patrick's Day, maybe pumpkin (if it is possible) for Halloween/Thanksgiving, and Eggnog for Christmas
Such a simplified menu would allow McDonald's get back to its roots and cut the cost of its sandwiches across the board, with an increased emphasis on quality of food and food preparation.
Yes,the left is killing off MacDonald’s, but not for the reasons that the article suggests. For the last ten years or so, the McDonald’s advertising campaign in the United States has had an urban theme that seems directed at 12% of population. Take for example, the “I’m lov’in it” ad campaign. WTF does that mean? The word is “loving” not “lov’in” and “it” is undefined. Compare that ad compaign with the highly popular and successful “Have it you’re way,” “You deserve a break today,” and the “Two all beef paddies” ad campaigns of yesteryear’s. Three decades later, I can still sing the jingles and remember the product.
The second problem is in the quest for diversity, McDonald’s has assembled a work force that can’t speak basic, grammatically correct English. I should not have to repeatedly ask, “what did you say” or state “I don’t undersstand you” when ordering something as simple as a quarter pounder with cheese, small fries, and a small Diet Coke.
Could America be growing tired of the flavors?
I haven’t been to a McDonald’s in Germany, but went to one in Vienna where beer was on the menu. Not something that would ever be adopted in the US (they would not be able to hire any teenagers).
I used to eat almost daily at a hot dog place run by a bunch of Greeks. Some of them could not speak English but they understood “two all the way” perfectly.
They were really good hot dogs too.
The are very good and McDonald's makes a ton of money from them.
We got a sausage Mcmuffin the other day for a buck. That will keep us going back.
There’s a local burger chain in the Seattle area called Dick’s, with about 6-7 locations, and they haven’t changed their menu in 50 years: four burger options, fries, shakes (3 flavors only), sodas, ice cream cones, and (I think) sundaes. No salads, wraps, fish burgers, chicken burgers, tacos, frozen yogurt, breakfast items, or smoothies. The place is almost always busy. A meal costs $4.50-7.50, depending on what you order.
The name is the only thing Scottish about them.
The comments in this thread are hilarious. The bottom line is that older people with money (the FR demo) don’t like McDonalds. As the liberal media would say: “unexpected”. ROFLMAO.
Watch a McDonalds commercial some time. They aren’t seeing us as their target market. They guy who was surprised that fries aren’t cooked in butter anymore at his “annual” trip to McDonalds is the winner of the thread! I guess “annual” to him is every 20 years.
I’ve said this before.
KFC is ten times worse than McDonald’s food health-wise.
Attacking McDonalds has been a key target of the anti-capitalist mentality since that BS, left-wing, propaganda POS “Supersize” was released.
They want to destroy this company so that they can point to it as an example of their power to destroy any company that doesn’t toe the PC/green/socialist line.
That’s right, because it isn’t PC.
Now, if a green or PC company wanted to market the same junk, the state-run media who hates capitalism would usher them in on a red carpet.
The only two Panda Express, I have eaten at, were horrible.
They’re good here for what they are here. Better than the buffets but don’t go there looking for Chinese food.
