FULL TITLE: Democrats in Congress Urged to Be 'Bold' Like Republicans With God Talk; Assert Christian Faith Supports Gov't Funding for Planned Parenthood, Welfare
WASHINGTON The progressive, New York-based Union Theological Seminary hosted the first-ever Congressional Faith Orientation on Capitol Hill, Tuesday, which was attended by five Democratic Congress members who addressed the role religion and faith play in determining how they vote on public policies.
While it is a widely-held notion that the Republican Party is more beholden to faith and religion when it comes to integrating them in federal public policy decisions, the Democratic panel members discussed how their own religious beliefs have driven them to support policy items like welfare assistance, public funding for Planned Parenthood and criminal justice reform.
Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee, R-Texas, Emanuel Cleaver, D-Missouri, and James Clyburn, D-South Carolina, claimed that the biblical call to "feed" and "clothe" the needy, has influenced their continual advocacy for welfare assistance programs like the food stamp program, which Republicans have in the past tried to make significant cuts to.
Lee criticized the claim that the Republican Party is the only party inclined to act on faith in Congress. She asserted that the understanding of "faith in America" needs to be expanded and more tolerant to include the views of other religious beliefs and even lack of religious belief.

For all the wrong reasons?
Putrid hypocrites.
They already believe that the state is God and that they are building a heaven on earth. Why not wrap it up in religious trappings?
Oh, they are bold all right. Talk about putting God in the platform and they boo.
Years ago I read a survey that said while 2/3 of Republicans attend church regularly, less than a third of Democrats did. I’ll also bet that the churches that Rats attend are more of a liberal club than an evangelical church, too.
Same crap they started in after losing the 2004 election. They called it the “God gap” and they sought to pitch their agenda items in biblical terms. Barack himself has said “we are our brother’s keeper”, there have been repeated Obamacare appeals in Christian terms.
EXCEPT I cannot be forced to tithe (via taxes) to the Commie Rat Bastards’ false teachings of biblical doctrine.
The are getting bolder every day with actually imposing their anti-Christian, anti-Jew agenda on the country.
Democrats better be careful by taking God’s name in vain.
Yup. More concerned about making political points than actually having faith.
Republicans were asked debate questions on biblical matters like creationism and the role of a wife.
Why the Hell wasn’t Barack asked if he believed that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, died for his (Obama’s) sins, was resurrected, and is the only path to eternal salvation?
I’m tired of the double standard. Let the God talk p-off the Democrat base for once.
There’s a lot of church going among the Black Democrat base. That’s why the liberal progressives have to shuck and jive (and then mock them behind closed doors). Obama did it in San Francisco and Mayor A. Parker in Houston did it while on city council.
If the black Christian Democrats stay home, the Rats lose.
Rotten fruit...
The only “God-talk” any real Dem wants to do is talking about ANY religion other than the One True God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
And as for Him, the only thing they want to do is blaspheme.
I wonder what their supporters think about this, both Atheists and Muslims.
So, the people who believe in executing the baby Jesus en utero need to express their Christian faith. That will work. Bob
Sacrilege!
Some of them understand the need to cover up their true beliefs in order to gain the power necessary to implement those beliefs.
The gullibility of millions of people in this country makes it easy for the commie ‘RATS to get away with these kinds of antics.
I bet that God knows and is watching.
